The seafront is charming and easy to walk along with lovely views - it's worth walking out along the harbour wall for sunset. Stunning. Get delicious fish and chips on your way. Dun Laoghaire itself is a pleasant town with plenty of independent shops as well as the usual chains, a good artisan market in pretty People's Park on a Sunday morning and a little further along, by the superb new library (visit the exhibitions there) a great eclectic Sunday street food court. But it is also a short trip by DART to the centre of Dublin with all that has to offer. We visited all the 'sights' including the Book of Kells at Trinity College, Temple Bar area and we walked along the Liffey. Would highly recommend Dun Laoghaire for a family, couples or single holiday or short visit.

This is a nice little coastal town close to Dublin city centre with excellent transport links. Some very nice breakfast/lunch places and quite a few decent pubs. A shortage of budget accommodation (too close to Dublin), but if you don't mind paying a little more the Royal Marine Hotel is very nice. Don't look for great shopping because you won't find it, but there are some nice little boutique places dotted around and the coastal route and beaches are so pretty that you're better off enjoying them. I was only there two nights and spent most of the time with friends outside the town but I would go back without hesitation.

I was surprised how pretty Dun Laoghaire was.

I was surprised how pretty Dun Laoghaire was. It was an overnight stay after getting the ferry from UK to Dublin Port, on my way to Galway. The weather helped as it was warm and sunny on the Saturday morning when I checked out. I walked up to the town centre, then all round the harbour. Lots of joggers, dog walkers and people walking and enjoying the sunny weather. I really wished I had booked for longer. Everyone was so friendly.

Lovely town, with nice restaurants, shops and a lovely pier...

Lovely town, with nice restaurants, shops and a lovely pier to walk on. Nearby Sandycove and the Martello Tower where James Joyce once lived, is beautiful. Food in Olivetto at Haddington House, overlooking the sea and the pier (complete with little bandstand), where many people take their morning or evening stroll, is a treat. The Pier itself is a great asset to the town, with coffee vans and fish sellers (but beware the seagulls !!). The People's Park, with its Sunday Market is a treasure. Transport links to Dublin City Centre are very good, especially the Dart.

We had inter connecting rooms on the 4th floor in the newer part of the hotel and they were very comfortable. We had a great view out to sea and the room had all the amenities you would expect including a spacious bathroom and seating area in the bedroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was very excellent throughout our stay. The sauna & steam room were very good and the swimming pool and dressing rooms were very clean and well maintained.
