Listowel is a designated heritage town on the river Feale in North Kerry. The town has a wonderful town park and river walk with historical attractions like the remains of a substantial castle (reputed to have been in the same style as Bunratty castle in Co. Clare) and a replica of the unique Lartigue monorail train. It has also some wonderful shopfronts created by Pat McAuliffe over 100 years ago. The town has a number of good pubs, restaurants and accommodations, and is a short drive from the lovely beaches of Ballybunion. It is well worth a visit.

The location is great.

The location is great. Free car parking at the rear totally free and easy to enter the hotel from the rear. The hotel has that lovely lived in feel to it , within a lot of natural old world charm. A hidden gem in the centre of a charming rural town steeped in literary culture and natural rugged walks for the walker or hiker. The food 😋 was absolutely out of this world as I sense alot of the ingredients are out of the soil locally produced The price point re the rooms and food when I consider the quality of both was very reasonably priced. You're journey to Listowal will set the brightness echoing long after the visit as you're memories will evoke a pleasant and worthwhile trip to this hidden gem

Listowel is a friendly town.

Listowel is a friendly town. There's some good eating options and small family run bars for a drink. There's a good amount of small businesses, including an excellent Butchers, hardware shops, as well as St Johns Art Centre. You can also walk all along by the river, and have easy access to the greenway too.

We went primarily to tour the area including Ballybunion.

We went primarily to tour the area including Ballybunion. Also for the Lartigue Monorail and museum in Listowel. A gem, and an important piece of transport heritage that is still relatively unknown in the UK. Great visit. The town is lively with good music in the pubs (especially Christy's). Lovely place!

We have visited Listowel on many occasions before and find it a pleasant market town with some nice shops and friendly locals. This holiday we spent more time in Ballybunnion and Tralee. Ballybunnion has a great beach and also a leisure centre with swimming pool which is easily accessible. Tralee is a big town with a great leisure centre like an indoor Aquapark and Kerry Museum and Siamsa Tire - National Folk Theatre for Ireland, that hosts cultural events and traditional Irish Dancing. Listowel is 10 minute drive, Ballybunnion is 15 minutes drive from Baker's Cross and Tralee is a half hour drive.

Listowel is a lovely town with great outdoor recreational facilities and a strong history of celebrating literature and writers. It is a good base from high to explore northwest Kerry, from the Dingle Peninsula to Ballybunion and Foynes, where transatlantic flying boats used to land. For those unused to Irish roads and streets there are the challenges of driving on the left hand side and some tight turns and through ways, but that’s no different than driving anywhere in Ireland. I like the fact that it is not a town that gets inundated with tourists. The food at the Listowel Arms was excellent, as is the Horseshoe Bar. Woulfe’ s bookshop is worth a browse and the risk of leaving with several purchases. The greenway is a fabulous community resource.

Spacious rooms that were comfortable and spotlessly clean. Clean towels every day and nothing too much trouble for host. We messaged Noreen to ask for use of an iron, 10 minutes later there she was armed with an iron and board. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order with unlimited drinks and toast also a friendly morning chat and information about the area if needed. Our family were over for a wedding in Listowel and booked 3 rooms at Racecourse View, all of us slept well and had no complaints wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Central position in Listowel, strategic to visit Kerry and to access Clare. We were late for check-in and they were very helpful. Clean and spacious room. Be sure to have breakfast downstairs at Lizzy’s: excellent cappuccino, delicious scones and friendly staff! Thanks!
