Beautifully designed boutique hotel. Slept wonderfully. Woke to a classy breakfast. They served the tastiest croissants and offered eggs to order on top of a nice buffet spread. Oh and the showers was ahhh…after a long day of travel you know how great this can be. The hotel manager was incredibly responsive.

Sardinia in a Nutshell

The Sardinian capital, Cagliari has a historic old town, busy port and one of the island’s best beaches. The sweeping stretch of sand at Poetto has great summer nightlife, and just inland is Molentargius lagoon, where flamingos nest against the backdrop of the city.

Cagliari is spread over a small hill and the oldest part – Quartiere Castello – lies at the top. There are far-reaching views from Bastion San Remy, its main entrance point. Medieval city walls lead from here to the simple cathedral, and nearby is the 18th-century Palazzo Regio.

By one of the original city gates is the National Archaeological Museum, housing a collection of Phoenician and Roman artifacts from the city’s Tuvixeddu Necropolis. There are also displays of the nuraghic civilization whose former dwellings pepper Sardinia. The most impressive is Su Nuraxi north of Cagliari.

Just outside the walls are remains of a Roman amphitheater, next to the university botanical gardens. Orange tree-lined streets descend the hill towards the seafront where restaurants and bars can be found. Cagliari FC play at Sant’Elia Stadium along the coast and opposite is the Sardinia International Fair, an important conference venue.

This is a lovely island city with very friendly people. We were there for a week and enjoyed many different restaurants and bistros. There are also a huge number of places to get wine or cocktails. The ocean is spectacular in colour and temperature. We took several baot trips as well as a trip to the beach,

This was our first time to Sardinia.

This was our first time to Sardinia. It was mainly for the beach experience, although we travelled into town one day. The old town has a romantic feel to it with lots of winding streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants. It's certainly worth a look. The beaches were clean and well served with lidos, sunbeds and umbrella's. We found two great restaurants Lo Spiedio Sardo and Malibù. There's also an area of street food which was also good value for money. For those that smoke/vape beware. There's a no smoking rule on the beach in Poetto. Nobody tells you and there are no signs. The local police give out fines to unsuspecting tourists. We found that out to our cost.

Lots to see and do both in the city and at the beaches. We only had time to visit one beach (Poetto) but would have loved to walk over the mountain to the beach at the other side. Great views from the Bastion and the cathedral was very impressive. Lovely, relaxing afternoon at the botanic gardens which was also great value for money. Great value food and drink. Loved the special Cagliari pizza too!

People are extremely friendly without being intrusive. The city city is not very big (maybe for 3 days of sightseeing), but it's a perfect base for exploring the rest of the island. Public transportation is very easy to navigate.

It's a nice city with nice people in it.

It's a nice city with nice people in it. If you're very keen on shopping you might find the shops a bit widely spread, but if you enjoy walking it's a pleasant enough place for urban strollers, especially at weekends. The best places to park near the centre are down by the port, just outside the ZTL. You can eat well at many cost levels, don't hesitate to ask locals for advice.

Really interesting town.

Really interesting town. A lot to see and short trip to beaches. Pula was worth to visit. Built in 7 hills and if you want to se around you must rise to hills like Castello di San Michelle. The fortress is no use to go inside. Easy to drive to up. Best was to sit in Bar la buon cammino near archeologico museum to see under trees sea and enjoy a glass of wine with gentle breeze.

The hotel itself- which is a floor in an old building is excellent. Very nice modern and comfortable room with everything you need in it. very clean. the location is good-inside the old town but gives you trouble to come and return. Location was close to the city centre, the train and bus station and the seafront promenade. Staff was kind and helpful. Room was big, quiet and clean. We had breakfast once and it was very good. There is an excellent Sardinian restaurant next to the hotel. I highly recommend Hotel Flora.
