It was centrally located. We had plenty of space., it was clean and they provided a very nice breakfast in the morning with good cappuccino. Also, it’s right next-door or across the street from a Catholic Church so we attended mass on Sunday, which was nice although we did not understand Italian .

A beautiful, quiet and intimate place facing a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Poets, and on clear days even the snow-capped Alps. Perfect for relaxing or for day trips in the area. If you wish to visit the villages of the Cinque Terre, you can drive 10 minutes and park near the La Spezia train station, from where trains depart every few minutes — just 7 minutes to the first village. The location is also ideal for exploring the villages and towns around the Gulf of Poets.

The hotel is super well located, very close to the train station and to many stores and restaurants. It's a great place to use as a base if you want to visit the other towns in Cinque Terre. The design in the hotel is quite cool, and the room was very spacious, bigger than expected! The room was also very clean. All the interactions we had with the staff were very positive, and they helped us out with questions and some requests.

Check-in was really fast and easy. Location was perfect. The hotel is located a little bit above the city center I believe, so the reception is in the 5th floor but then you take the elevator to the ground floor where you can exit to go to the walkable area. In the ground floor is also the breakfast room, which had plenty of food, coffee, all kind of breads, sweets, cold meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, juice, etc. Parking was right outside the hotel, which was great. The hotel was very clean, spacious, comfortable and the staff were very nice.

FAQs about hotels in La Spezia

Gateway to the 'Cinque Terre'

La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.

Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.

Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.

The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.

Good base for trips to surrounding cities. City itself has nice center with restaurants and shopping street, but big part od the city is commercial port. The hilly surrounding of the city is beautifull.

La Spezia is a wonderful place to stay if you are planning to visit Cinque Terre. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the city has a very pleasant charm. Especially in the evening, the city centre is still lively, with many restaurants and food options open late. The streets have a romantic and cosy atmosphere, making it enjoyable to walk around after a day of exploring. Compared to staying directly in Cinque Terre, La Spezia offers easier access, more dining options, and a more convenient experience for travellers.

So much to do there.

So much to do there. The fish/fruit/vegetable/flower market had high quality produce. The little boutique shops are great to wander around. The port is large and interesting and the restaurants serve great fresh fish. A boat ride of 2.30 hours round the bay was the high light of my stay which included a stop off at one of the islands.

La Spezia was a bit of a revelation .

La Spezia was a bit of a revelation . We chose it as it was close to Pisa airport by train and very close to Cinque Terre which was the reason for our visit. It wa also close enough to Lucca and Genoa which we also visited. La Spezia itself is a lovely place with fabulous central area where you feel like you are drinking and eating with the locals. There were obviously tourist there like us but you were never that aware of there being too many. A lovely park and waterfront and possibly most important of all excellent railway links to many places.

We loved the La Spezia.

We loved the La Spezia. Italians there are so nice and helpful. Traffic(we rented a scooter) is well organized, driving is easy, Polizia is walking the streets and makes sure even the parking is done correctly-parking spots are very well marked. There is a lot(too many) restaurants, but we loved a small buffet on the fisherman's docks(Al Pescatori). There is a big park with palms, tress and benches if you have a dog with you. The city is very clean, they sweep and wash the streets. The food market in the center is amazing. Buy a handmade pasta there and a pesto and you get yourselves a meal. There are orange tress all over the town which find enchanting. Quite a lot of places you can sit down and observe other passing by, a few galleries and museums, bars are open till late night. We felt very safe. La Spezia doesn't have any beach in walking distance, but it's easy to buy a ticket and hop on bus for, let's say, San Terenzo. I recommend visiting. If the city had it own beach, it would be a 10!

La Spezia ended up being one of the biggest surprises of our Italy trip. We originally planned to use it as a home base for visiting Cinque Terre, but we quickly fell in love with the city itself. We stayed at Center Loft Apartments, which was in a fantastic location within walking distance of the train station, ferry terminal, shops, restaurants, and cafés. Every morning we enjoyed cappuccinos and fresh croissants at a nearby café, and some of the best coffee we had in Italy was right here in La Spezia. The waterfront was beautiful, clean, and relaxing, and the ferry was an easy and enjoyable way to explore the surrounding coastline. The city had a lively yet laid-back atmosphere with a nice mix of locals and visitors, plenty of shopping, great restaurants, and excellent gelato. We only explored on foot during our four-day stay, but every area we visited felt safe, welcoming, and easy to navigate. If you’re looking for a convenient base for Cinque Terre, don’t make the mistake of treating La Spezia as just a place to sleep. It’s a destination worth enjoying on its own, and we’d happily stay there again

The location is great - not too far from the station. Just make sure to have the directions handy, whether it's a map or your phone. The place is clean and tidy, with all modern conveniences, and has a nice view of the Piazza. Since it's not a touristy area, you really get the feel of living in Italy, especially with the hustle and bustle of La Spezia on the weekends. I really enjoyed that. It's close to the port, museums, the castle, the markets, and more. Plus, it’s secure It’s a great base for sightseeing and relaxing.

Fantastic location, in a quite courtyard off one of the central streets in La Spezia. A wonderfully quirky little hotel, full of character and charm. Very comfortable room (with air-conditioning) and a well-appointed bathroom. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, offering great advice on what to see, where to eat, trips to other towns in the area, and both storing our bags and being very flexible with timings. It really was a great stay.

We stayed at The Poet for one night. Our room was very clean and ideal for a one night stay. I presume that we would have been given a larger and slightly more comfortable room if our stay was for longer. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was very good. The hotel is in an excellent location, approximately 6 or 7 minutes walk from the railway station, and within 10 minutes walk of the Marina and central La Spezia.
