The hotel is gorgeous and well kept. The view from every window is breathtaking. The building is well preserved without being stuffy or ancient. Everyone in the staff was exceptionally kind and helpful. When we mentioned being gluten intolerant, they made up a cute breakfast basket for us, with lots of gf products. Very thoughtful! They also recommended several restaurants to us. One that we went to had amazing gf pizza. Yum! They recommended transportation to us when we left for the train station.

FAQs about hotels in Livorno

Tuscan Port and Hub

Livorno features one of the biggest harbours in Italy, from which ferries depart towards a long list of Mediterranean destinations, particularly the Tuscan Archipelago, Sardinia and Corsica. Called ‘Ideal Town’ during Renaissance times for its religious tolerance and its advanced trading regulations, it is surrounded by typical Tuscan countryside and Tyrrhenian beaches.

The city was declared a tax-free port in the 1580s, during the rule of Ferdinando de' Medici. The regulation protected the merchants and granted religious tolerance, attracting numerous Jewish and Protestant immigrants. The Counter-Reformation, the Napoleonic invasions, and the loss of its free-port status after the Italian Reunification were at the base of its commercial decline.

Don’t miss the canals of the Venice District, Piazza della Repubblica, and the Fortezza Nuova fortress. The spacious avenues and streets in the city centre contrast with the undulating landscape of its suburban areas. Most hotels in Livorno are located in the central area.

The city is an important centre from which you can explore Tuscany, including Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and the beach resort of Versilia. The local railway station offers regional and national links, while Pisa International Airport is just 22 km away.

Whether you need a hotel near Livorno’s ferry pier or a B&B close to the suburban beaches, don’t miss the accommodation deals on Booking.com!

Hotel was a little too far from centre to walk into town (in the heat), so a car was needed and then parking was a challenge. But Livorno was well placed to use as a base to go into Pisa and visit other places.

Livorno is a great place to stay. The location is excellent. Public transport is good although we were find on the bus for not using our card correctly we found as the week went on that other people were being fine too. It felt like a scam so please be aware. Check out at the Tourist information.

I only stayed overnight, but this gritty, international and vibrant city grew on me by the hour. Tourists are an exception here so you get to see life in a port city next to the people who call it home. Do t miss the Mercato Centrale, but go before noon. Also across the street from there find the small bar Da Gagarin for their inimitable “5 e 5” chickpea sandwich, at less than 3 Euro.

A really good Italian working port town, but with some good historical parts - the canals and the old and 'new' fortresses really give it some character. There is a magnificent and busy covered market, which spills out into the surrounding streets, plenty of cafes and restaurants with fish menus as well as other things. Parking is not so easy!! Go for the covered parking structures. It is also the departure point for ferries, so an excellent stopover en route.

There's not a lot there.

There's not a lot there. And when the cruise ships come in, it gets manic with people getting on busses. We'd a BAD experience with the inspectors that come on buses. They home in on tourist's, when they checked our tickets that we did on the card machine, though not our fault, we wanted 2 tickets, it gave us 1 and the called us crimenals

Was not impressed with the city and expected more given all the review I read online. My disapointment could be due to the fact I visited in February, so off season. I booked two nights but decided to only stay for one and left early. Even though I booked a room in the central part of the city I did not feel safe walking the streets at night.

Stayed in Livorno en route (slowly) back North to the UK. Hotel has great parking just outside the hotel and has easy links either into Livorno itself or onto a regional train. A short 10 minute walk to the train station (for our day trip to Pisa) or a 30 minute walk down into Livorno's port town, the hotel was at the right location for us. There are buses along with a taxi rank at the train station if you didn't fancy the walk (it was over 32C during our stay and we enjoyed the evening coolness and an ice cream).

I recently stayed in a delightful apartment in Livorno, Italy, and it was a wonderful experience. The apartment was incredibly cozy and tidy, making it a pleasant surprise and a true home away from home. Its central location was perfect for exploring the city. I highly recommend this charming apartment to anyone visiting Livorno.
