Our stay in Villa Hotel Valle del Marta exceeded our expectations. The property itself is just beyond beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and the pool is just divine. The room was very spacious with high ceilings, the bed was super comfortable with the finest cotton linens and great pillows. We loved this place. The breakfast was very fresh with a variety of choices. The staff was super accommodating and ver professional. The owner makes his own award winning brandy on site and it’s so delicious. My husband and I loved this place.

Loved how kind and communicative Dani was. She made everything easy. The place was spotless with easy parking nearby on the street and a short walk from both the Etruscan Necropolis and the old town. We were pleasantly surprised the kitchen was fully stocked and had all the basics (oil, sugar, salt, coffee) and Dani had even placed some milk and bottled water in the fridge as well as mini Nutella and breakfast pastries.

We started this trip in Tarquinia because it is only 60-90 min from the airport and we were interested in learning about Etruscan history and culture. It is very easy to reach, easy to find public parking, and easy to navigate the town on foot. Perfect example of a small hill town in this area. Plenty to see- the town itself, including the churches I find so appealing, the Etruscan museum, a real jewel of a museum, and the Etruscan tombs. We visited Etruscan museums and tombs in other (larger) cities, and these were really well done. Lots of good restaurants and shops, too. We felt that two days was about perfect, given the size of the town.

The town is a classic Italian hill town with a rich history,...

The town is a classic Italian hill town with a rich history, a wonderful museum of its Etruscan heritage, and some excellent restaurants and night life. But the old city is characterized by narrow streets and few, if any places to park a rental car. Almost all parking is at remote pay by the hour lots scattered around the lower parts of the old city close to the city walls. We eventually found a largish hotel (Hotel Tarconte) just above the city wall on the ocean side of the town not far from the Hospital with free parking on the street in both front and opposite the hotel. The hotel is family owned and operated and the owner was friendly and generous and made a dinner reservation for us the second night of our stay at a seaside restaurant which was excellent in terms of service, food and value. We enjoyed walking about the old city both during the day and after nightfall, the Etruscan museum was a delight, and the people--especially the young people, were friendly and helpful. The location, just an hour north of the FCO airport, is a good get away destination for new arrivals who don't want to go into Rome and deal with city congestion after a long airline flight.

Tarquinia has a great museum, a charming historical center and is close to the beach. The Etruscan tombs shouldn't be missed. It is also off the beaten path a bit so you don't have to deal with the crowds found in other cities.

Very picturesque and impressive town with good Etruscan focused museum and a number of artistic events (concerts etc). Architecture is impressive and Etruscan tombs close to town. A very relaxed vibe. Would highly recommend.

Tarquinia is a beautiful historic city with an unfortunate lack of transportation. The bus system is hard to navigate and understand. There are no taxis or ubers, I recommend using a car to travel around between Lido and Tarquinia. Be sure to check if the restaurant you are trying to eat at takes walk ins, otherwise you need to make reservations. The archaeological museum is excellent and the staff are very kind. The town does shut down for a siesta in the middle of the day, so be sure to plan for that.

Very peaceful location right on the sea! The staff were great, made the effort to walk you to your room and show you around. Was surprised with an upgrade!! There was a complimentary electric charger for the car which was a great surprise! Food on the property was good and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Italy so far! Also very nice pool to relax by. Overall loved our experience!!
