A pretty new budget friendly, Japanese business hotel, and just 10minutes driving distance to Magome. A free breakfast with coffee starts the day perfectly. It also expanded the car park to another 2 areas (one behind the hotel and another crossed the road). There are still plenty of parking lots when we reached at about 6pm. Coffee seems severed all day too!

Onn Nakatsugawa is a beautiful and modern boutique hotel located close to the train station, in a very centric but quiet area of Nakatsugawa, full of cafes and restaurants. It’s also on the old Nakasendo and you can visit a few of the historic buildings of the town. The hotel is very nice (as the staff), has public baths, free coffee throughout the day and rice in the evening, plus amenities such as toothbrush, razor, yukata, etc. You have to take off your shoes which is a nice detail. We had the Comfort Twin room with shower and it was decently spacious.

It's been great to stay in this accomodation, right in the centre of the old town. It is simple but comfortable and practical and it's been lovely to stay in such a traditional building.

The place is fairly convenient. The room is clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a short stay. Very polite and helpful staff, not to mention that the food is really nice! It comes with a complimentary breakfast but I had my dinner at the hotel as well and it was great.

this is a magical place. The place is actually better than the photos. The house is right on the walkway between Migome and Tsumago. The owners are such beautiful people and they will drive you wherever you need to get to for free. Truly the highlight of our Japan holiday. We highly highly recommend this place.

The Sakanomichi is a gem. My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. Ken san and Yuki san were delightful. The property was very clean and comfortable. They renovated the inn themselves and you can see care and attention in every detail from materials used to decor. The food was delicious and much of it was grown (rice) or made (plum wine) by Ken or Yuki. They provided great recommendations for restaurants and side trips. They ensured we were prepared with all the details required to ensure we had successful adventures. We are so lucky to have we picked the Sakonomichi. It was sugoi!!!

I really loved Nakatsugawa and wish I could have stayed longer. The town has a great mix of onsen, culture, and local food Kawakamiya was fantastic, definitely worth trying (I only wish I could have bought more, but the items expire quickly). I highly recommend Nakatsugawa for anyone planning to traveling the Nakasendō route.

I stayed for one night to hike the Nakasendo and it was just perfect in every way. A small and friendly city with a street of an old town on it´s own. A shopping mall with a big Daiso and a friendly canteen were great discoveries.

The hike between Magome & Tsumago was so nice & peaceful. I went on a rainy day and still absolutely loved it. I started in Magome, had coffee at Hillbilly Coffee, shopped at the local stores, then started the walk to Tsumago. Most of the shops in Tsumago were closed, but had some udon when we got there and waited for the bus to take us back to the station. And going in fall was so nice because of the leaves changing!

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .

What really stands out, is the 5-star service by the receptionists. Actually even better than 5 stars, as there's none of the condescending glances one might get at 5-star hotels. :-D I'm especially grateful for the extra help I got from the bilingual Japanese receptionist. Despite hostel-style accommodation, I slept very well and found the bed to be comfy. The place is easy to reach on foot from Magome-juku bus stop, even with a large suitcase, as there's a pavement all the way.

Nice and minimal modern hotel, seemed newly built. The room was comfortable for the one night we stayed and walking distance from the main station. The public onsen was an added bonus and was great. Breakfast at the hotel was very good and had a lot of Japanese breakfast variety.

The hotel was very clean, quiet. The rooms were the same and very comfortable with all you need for a comfortable stay. The private bath was a lovely luxury particularly after a day's hiking. The breakfast was Japanese with a small continental selection.
