Everything was right, from start to finish. The place, the bed, the lounge, I’m literally planning to go back with my family. Is the first time ever, while traveling, that I’ve felt so comfortable in a hotel room. I felt like the room was a place to be, to stay, to live and it didn’t bother me to be there while a snowstorm was raging outside. The bed was amazing, even though it was a Japanese futon, the staff was super nice and welcoming and the free drinks at the lounge were amazing. This is the best hotel I’ve ever been and I will definitely return.

It was clean with good room space and comfy. Excellent location just almost in front the Station. The breakfast was standard but good enough. I highly recommend this hotel to stay in Takayama if you look just a place to stay.

The location seems a bit strange at first, but in the morning you can see all the beautiful rice paddies outside! Absolutely stunning and breathtaking. The room itself was spacious enough for two, with good bed and big TV. Staff was attentive, you could buy snacks in the lobby since there are no combinis nearby. We only stayed one night but it seemed like a really nice hotel, even though it’s in the middle of nowhere - but since we were coming by car, it was not a problem.

The hotel is wonderful, the lounge includes a buffet and very cozy spaces to read and relax. There is the possibility to book a private onsen (for an extra fee). Takayama was a great place to explore - the historical and cultural district were nice and there was some good restaurants and shopping. Hilda Beef is available at every eatery - to find alternatives I had to walk a bit further out. I took a day trip to Kamikotchi about 1 ½ hours away which was insanely beautiful. I skipped the Shakiwara village, took a train to Hida Osaka, hired an electric bike and rode to Gandate Gorge / Park. Highly recommend - it was my most favourite day:)

Takayama is a beautifully preserved old town, dark wooden merchant houses, and sake breweries. It has a very similar feel to Kurashiki in Okayama prefecture. Takayama has a relaxed, foreigner-friendly pace that makes it easy to explore. Takayama is also a good launching place to visit Shirakawa go. It's authentic Japan without the crowds of Kyoto or Tokyo — a small town that's easy to fall in love with.

There are not major temples or castles here, so no major tourist attractions, which makes it wonderfully calm...the old town, with the river passing by is charming...i like the calm and peace...and the people very friendly

We stayed two nights in Takayama, you can visit and see everything there is to see in this time. Adding one more night to visit Shirakawago from there is possible but there isn’t really much to do over there (3 hours is enough imo)

Takayama is gorgeous.

Takayama is gorgeous. It’s the getaway you didn’t know you needed until you get there! A walk to the river and around the old town area is sublime. Start with one of the morning markets along the river, a coffee or matcha with a view and a leisurely stroll through neighbourhoods, shopping streets, temples and shrines. It is all very walkable. But if your feet say otherwise, catch the loop bus for 100 yen and make your way back. Also take the train up to Hida Furakawa(about a 15 minute ride) where the koi fish swim through small canals in the street and every corner you turn is a new discovery. One of the most peaceful towns ever. You can also take a 9 minute bus ride to the Hida Folk Village to get a sense of the history and life of the Hida area. Oh, and don’t forget to try the Hida beef. It is truly a spiritual experience. So many choices but I recommend the place which is part of a butcher’s shop.

Takayama is my favorite place so far on my trip in Japan.

Takayama is my favorite place so far on my trip in Japan. It is a beautiful small city, the old town is very special. There are beautiful walks, amazing shrines, museums , great restaurants and morning markets. I wish I had taken more time here. If you stay near to the old town getting around is super easy. If you can make it to Takayama you won’t be disappointed!

Onsen was good, breakfast was good, nice bright room and hotel, well located. Coffee and green tea in reception area. Bed was hard and standard double room was small, barely adequate for 2 adults but not atypical of many Japanese hotel rooms. The hotel was quiet and parking on site for a fee was easy and convenient during our 2 night stay. Good air conditioning. Walking distance to station and all other main tourist sites in Takayama. Overall would stay again but in a larger room.

Great Ryokan, larger than you think spread across multiple floors. Excellent location just 150 metres from the station but within walking distance to all the sights of Takayama. We opted for a larger room with western beds which worked well for us. Had the Japanese breakfast which is a must. They don’t do lunch or dinner but are very happy to organise a location for you. Onsen is great after a day of walking. Staff are absolutely a feature!

Staff is very friendly, breakfast is really good and the private onsen was an absolute highlight so far on our japan trip. It’s just perfect. Room was spacious enough for the two of us and the hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the main sights in Takayama. Hotel is very easy to find as well, google maps directions are perfectly fine and accurate.

This hotel is a work of art! If you're a fan of architecture and Japanese minimalism, you've got to stay here. We loved our room...spacious, modern, and cozy. The onsen was the perfect touch after a long day of traveling. Truly a hidden gem in Takayama!

Beautiful clean and modern hotel with onsen. Onsen was quite busy at 9pm, but after 10pm you could get a private one without problem. The breakfast was great in a form of buffet, western and japanese style. The employees spoke very English very well.
