Arco da Calheta is little bit far away from east part of the...

Arco da Calheta is little bit far away from east part of the island, but very close to Rabacal platform where are many activities. Caltheta is very close and has 2 big beaches with nice sand and enough space to park a car, which is not common in whole Madeira island. For me, it was a good spot to explore the whole island with a car during a 10 day vacation.

When traveling by rental car, location was OK.

When traveling by rental car, location was OK. There was no night life around, restaurants, bigger supermarket Pingo Doce and beach appr 2.5 km away, so in no walking distance considering also the landscape:) Parking was very comfortable at the property we stayed the gate was a bit tight though but considering Madeira very good. The one of 3 sandy beaches in Madeira was nearby in Calheta, also the location is good to access islands middle part or western hiking trails and cities like Ponta do Sol, Seixal, Porto Moniz and Levada 25 Fonts, Fanal forest and Levada Nova/Dominho.

Ok as a base but definitely need a car, as its at an altitude of 450m can be misty at times. Marina close by is easily accessible plenty of parking with supermarket and restaurants. Access to “main” roads less than 10 minutes, 40 minutes to Funchal.

The house is somewhat remote from shops and bus routes and in our view a car is a must. The area is reasonably built up but we found it quiet. The Marina and beach areas of Calheta are excellent and a great place to spend the day; there is plenty of pay parking both on the road and in the two car parks, but as the area is popular these can get full, with very diligent traffic wardens. There are lots of restaurants a short drive away but we tended to cook at home or take sandwiches with us. There is an excellent Continente supermarket along the VE4 heading toward Soa Vicente about a mile north of Ribeira Brava. For other shopping there is the excellent 'Madeira shopping' centre in Santo Antonio.

parking down the narrow vereda is tight but convenient. The vereda continues down to town centre with snack bars. Large dressing area very useful. Good restaurants in nearby Madalena do Mar (A Poita). Hike right out the door along the ridge up to the Levada Nova or quick drive up to Rabacal hikes. The western end of the island is not far and has great hikes with far fewer crowds. Kitchen well equipped for prep and Pingo Doce at the beach very convenient. Carlos was responsive to minor issues we had. Engenho near the beach is very interesting with lots of sugar cane products to try.

Arco da Calheta is a local parish with character, spread out across a steep, hilly valley with narrow, winding roads, facing the Atlantic. Visitors will likely live among local residents and their wildlife (one or two cows, a few chickens & cockerels announcing their presence; cats & and dogs calmly roaming around), although more holiday accommodation is springing up, and Shopkeepers/restaurants are helpful, and often speak English, though not all! The weather is hard to predict sometimes , and can contrast across different parts of the parish: near the ocean , it is more likely to be calm and sunny; further up the slopes you will get more cloud and possibly wind on exposed sections. A visit to a local supermarket will likely mean either hopping in your car or a very bracing workout for your leg muscles!

Simone is an outstanding host! She made sure to be there when we arrived to greet us and show us everything. The apartment is really well equipped and comfortable. The views speak for themselves, both of them. Unbelievable. The parking space outside the house is all we needed, easy to park and to leave. The location of the house is really good if you drive, easy access to the road in any direction and if not, taxis get there shortly. Bed and couch were superior! Amazingly comfortable! Superb stay in Madeira! Thanks for everything Simone.

We rent the villa Palmeira for 2 people. It is a very Nice and pleasant Villa with amazing view on the Ocean. Very quiet: there is no noise during the day and the night. The villa is well equiped, nothing is missing. Garden is beautiful. Steffi and Alexander are very nice people, always ready to support us. If we come back on Madeira Island we will choose again this villa and we will recommend it.

Ocean view was beautiful. The village has a good location to go to Madeira trips from. The accommodation is on hill, so you definitely need a car (but it is must have for Madeira over all). House is good equipped, everything was very clean. Beds were comfortable and owner is kind and willing to help. In the context of the price, this accommodation is really a gem :)
