The place was amazing , from the decor to the location . The kids loved the ostriches and geese . The meal was amazing and the breakfast also delicious. The people were so friendly and caring. We loved it !

Beautiful and restful place and very friendly hostess. We could not stay for breakfast as we had to leave very early and the hostess made us sandwiches instead to take with us. She really went the extra mile.

It was homely and friendly and exceptionally comfortable.

It was homely and friendly and exceptionally comfortable. The quirky character was a welcome sight of a day's travel. Riana made us feel super welcome and relaxed. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The lamb chops for supper were absolutely delicious and the day was rounded off with wonderful malva pudding. Breakfast the next morning was a great start to the day. All in all, a perfect oasis and fantastic stop midway from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg

Really enjoyed our shortish stay.

Really enjoyed our shortish stay. The town is in a sad state but much of the original character is still evident. We visited and ate at 'Die Ou Kar' restaurant and pub; such an amazing little restaurant in town - great vibe, energetic staff and quality food. The Bethulie Royal Hotel - 'House of Stories' was remarkable. The restaurant 'Die Ou Kar' and the NG Kerk were all amazing however the rest seemed to need care and service delivery. Cool sighting of local cows walking the streets at night after dinner. Much history and heritage in the town but you will need to invest time with the correct people to learn the detail.

Bethulie is a historic little town on the edge of the great...

Bethulie is a historic little town on the edge of the great Gariep Dam. It only has one place to get an evening meal, Die Ou Kar, which is very friendly but with rather slow service. If you have a spare hour or two it is very worthwhile to get more information about the rich history of the town from the local guide, Trudie Venter.

The hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable and served a delicious evening meal. Deborah helped us with planning our trip to avoid the worst of the roads. The room was comfortable and the bed divine. Instructions on dstv would have been helpful

We arrived at night and left early the next morning and the...

We arrived at night and left early the next morning and the Guest Farm is located just outside the town so we didn't get an opportunity to visit Bethulie itself. However, as a pit-stop, it was perfect ... we enjoyed the very pretty drive along the Gariep Dam to get to the farm and were able to hop back onto the highway (near Springfontein) the next morning to resume our journey home. Afraid we didn't have time to visit either the concentration camp memorials or the Royal Hotel book lounge, which were the attractions we knew of.

if interested in history Bethuli offers the history of the site of a Boer War British concentration camp. Trudy Venter curator of the local museum and author of books on the war and surroundings is well worth contacting for a guided tour.
