The roads needs some work but it is a great area and I am definitely going back for a longer stay next time. enjoyed my short stay there. Loved staying at Pure Clarens at Quillets and enjoyed horse-riding from the guys in front of Xtream adventures, those guys are amazing. big ups to them. We had dinner at Charlies restaurant and the staff were friendly and serviced us well. A delicious and filling breakfast was enjoyed at Castello, the staff there were also amazingly great and welcoming, the road to get there was bad though, Castello can at the very least pitch in on the road works and ensure their guests enjoy a drive to their establishment.

the town is gorgeous and charming. many many places to stay, visit and eat - was though worried that outside of the main road, none of the side roads were tarred and has been damaged badly. While lighting in the square was adequate everywhere else was completely dark. Also good to note that many places are closed on Tuesdays. Clarens is an artist's dream with many galleries and pottery shops and the Dino Talk was a highlight for us. The weather was terrible cold, so we chickened out of the walk to the tracks - definitely something to return for in the summer.

Clarens is beautiful.

Clarens is beautiful. The village square caters for all your needs. Clarens is only 16 minute's from the Golden Gate Highlands National Park which is stunning in itself. The negative side, I did find Clarens Village square over caters for car guards and they do get to the point of being a pest which is unfortunate as it spoils the village square feel. Also the Park in the village square could do with a full upgrade which would change the whole look of the tourist part of Clarens. I would, however, recommend visiting Clarens for 2-3 days and take it all in.,

Clarens is a stunning, tiny town, surrounded by beautiful mountains. There is the main 'square' surrounded by unique shops and restaurants. You can expect typical pubs, fine dining that isn't typical of your big city-style dining, clothing & jewelry stores, leather goods, a little SuperSpar to purchase your groceries, an art store, among others. You can easily walk around Clarens. There are great mountain bike and hiking trails, the golf course is certainly not easy but fun and the views are spectacular. There are also wellness spas for you to indulge in a little R&R. Clarens does get cold so its wise to pack both cool weather and warm weather clothes (layers) so that you can be comfortable in any situation. You are very close to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, so making Clarens your place to stay is a good idea.

Clarens is special.

Clarens is special. Always good to visit and the people for me are what makes the place even more enjoyable. They are welcoming and helpful. It is a mixture of the old and new all preserved in good conditions. The food is affordable and different accommodation is available for all. Next visit I will try not to visit when it is too cold though the accommodation did have very good heating system, but iyoh it can can chilly.

Not your usual town with common retail stores.

Not your usual town with common retail stores. Very unique, laid back and clean town with arts and crafts shops every where. Perfect for a quiet time out. However no tourism office in the town. Info about where to find things is disjointed, not enough info on the internet (three websites which it turns out none of them is official), one had to go there physically to obtain info of things to do.

Our weekend stay in Clarens was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the picturesque Free State of South Africa, this charming town offered the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for our mother-daughter getaway. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the stunning mountain views and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The accommodations were cozy and well-appointed, providing us with all the comforts of home while allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the area.

Over the Easter Weekend we stayed at Firepit@Clarens in the Clarens Golf Estate. The house was very clean and neat and it has ample parking. The house is newly renovated because it use to be two separate units and unfortunately it still feels like two separate units. We had a very enjoyable stay but we just want to bring a couple of things to the host’s attention.
