The cottage is super awesome, with excellent facilities. The WiFi worked well, the shower, the kitchen and the heaters all worked perfectly. The hostess was super amazing, and very very friendly and helpful. The homemade rusks were delicious. Strongly recommended place to stay. The views of the ocean, the walk to the lighthouse and the wildflowers bloom all made our stay awesome. Point to note, from N7, it’s about 80 kms, of which about 54kms are gravel

What Guests Said About Hondeklipbaai:

There really isn't much to Hondeklipbaai.

There really isn't much to Hondeklipbaai. It is very small and, no shops to look around or anything of interest to see or visit. There are only 3 places to eat, with 2 only open a few days a week out of season. The Rooi Spinnekop Restaurant was the only restaurant open on a Monday evening, the owners were lovely, the food was good, but menu limited. Hondeklip Bay is really a place to stay one or 2 nights to break-up a road trip, not a destination.

Our host Jacky was there to meet us on our arrival. She was delightful and showed us around the cottage. It was well furnished and everything we needed was there. There was an indoor and an outdoor braai with outdoor furniture and cushions, but the wind was cold and strong and so we braaied indoors. The beds were wonderful and the showers were good. Unfortunately it is off the beaten track and there is nothing to do or to see there, so unless you are a keen fisherman you would not stay there longer than a night or two. Be aware that there are no shops and no restaurants at all, so you have to take everything along ,including your drinking water.

Love to walk arround Light Tower and drive to Ship Wreck. Food at Dop and Kreef was great and staff very helpfull. Remember to fill up fuel before final drive to Hondeklip. Closest petrol station 20km away.

Hondeklipbaai is quite a depressing, run down village, with limited lighting at night so we were advised not to walk to the local restaurant. If you are keen to get away from it all, it may appeal to you - but for a family with teenagers, not an ideal destination. We were only there for a night; so did not get to the reserve; which I believe is spectacular in Spring.

Hondeklipbaai has not much to offer ito entertainment, a small, ex-fishing village which is rather run down - although the accommodation offered is totally acceptable. The prices on the menu of the harbour restuarant is, for locals travellers, somewhat pricey. Really enjoyed our trip along the rugged coastline to the shipwreck. Even though we were approached, on two occassions, for money and liquor, overall, the local folk are very friendly.
