Safari rangers, breakfast and sunset drinks in the bush were the best. Food at the restaurant was decent.

The location is very remote and there were tons of animals all around the lodge. We loved the elephants that came to the watering hole each day. The service, food, accommodation, game drives were all excellent and exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to go back!

Buffalo Ridge was one of the most special travel experiences we have ever had. The lodge is beautiful, the wildlife was incredible, and Madikwe exceeded our expectations, but what made this place unforgettable was the people. Our guide, Joseph, was outstanding. His knowledge, tracking ability, and patience helped us see four of the Big Five, along with cheetahs, African wild dogs, lion cubs, elephant calves, and even a one-month-old rhino calf. We quickly learned that great safari sightings are the result of skill and experience, not just luck. The lodge itself was peaceful and relaxing, with comfortable chalets, beautiful views, and wildlife visible even from the property. We especially enjoyed spending time overlooking the watering hole between game drives. The hospitality was the best we have experienced anywhere. The food was exceptional, and every member of the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. A special thank you to Godfrey and Priscilla, who went out of their way to help me when I developed a sinus infection during our stay. We arrived expecting to remember the animals. We left knowing that what we will remember most is the people. If we are fortunate enough to return to South Africa someday, Buffalo Ridge will be at the top of our list.

Motswiri exceeded expectations. The main lodge bar and dining area were beautiful and welcoming. We stayed in the family villa and it was so comfortable, well decorated, great spot to see animals walking to the water hole. Staff is so friendly. We loved riding with Barry - great animal spotter and tracker, very informative and engaging, and so fun to spend time with. A big thank you to Petunia in the main lodge for always engaging with the kids when we returned from drive! and for the great massage! In the reservations team, Tammy was amazing! And of course, Bill - who has great stories to share about drives!

It was exclusive, personal & attentive staff. The watering hole next to the resort is a game changer! It's like a game drive, but lying down while enjoying a beer! Amazing experience! And they also have an underground hide to see the animals upclose! The food was exquisite & they made sure to meet our requests, especially since I'm a pescetarian. We had a pleasant surprise at night to have hit water bottles in bed! And during the game drive's too! It was cold, but the blankets were warm and comforting. Really enjoyed the evening dinner by the camp fire, what a lovely touch!

Amazing experience. Very intimate small lodge with an authentic feel. Food was superb. Staff and service were wonderful. Twice daily game drives were incredible. Our ranger was very knowledgeable and worked hard to make sure we had the best experience and were lucky to see all the Mag 7 the park has to offer. You will not be disappointed!

Madikwe Game Reserve is, without a doubt, my favourite game reserve. The breathtaking landscapes are unlike anywhere else, with a beautiful mix of open plains, rocky outcrops, and lush bushveld that make every game drive a feast for the eyes. The wildlife is simply incredible, and Madikwe never disappoints. Every visit brings unforgettable sightings and unique experiences, making each trip feel as special as the first. Whether it's the Big Five, endangered wild dogs, or the abundance of birdlife, there is always something amazing to see. What keeps me coming back is the consistency of the experience. Madikwe combines spectacular scenery, exceptional wildlife, and a true sense of wilderness that is hard to match. It is a place that captures your heart, and I can't wait to return again and again.

Difficult and bumpy road to get there when you cannot locate the proper route to Madikwe River lodge but the magic unravels as soon as you get close : the animals, the vegetation and one lonely but warm lady at the post who welcomes you to adventure! Blissfully peaceful, Matildah gazing at you while the other impalas peer from the bushes, one cheeky monkey sitting on the roof while the invisible chirping and singing lull you to quietude, right next to the river. The lady at the reception readily informed the Chef about my meal preferences and I was served fish, veggies and rice for dinner. The morning safari was conducted by a guide who read the tracks in Nature and drove us to a cheetah, a napping lion, a rising rhino, munching wildebeests and 3 black rhinos not happy at visitors for disturbing their early morn routine ;), and another napping lion! We looked fondly at the baby elephant and had to be careful when a big male elephant "in mas" came our way. It was one beautiful experience.

This reserve only allows visitors that stay in one of the lodges so their are no day tours. The guides all work together so they give eachother locations of animals they’ve spotted but than they go in turns to the animal so they don’t get overwhelmed by a traffic jam of tourists.

Madikwe is reclaimed farmland, so there are not the very large herds you may see in Kruger. Some of them are sizable - for example, they have a herd of African buffalo of nearly 500 head. One of the main draws is that it is Malaria free. The reserve is a good 5-hour drive from Johannesburg, at least. So it is a long way, and the roads in South Africa are not always safe, so consider this - it is worthwhile checking about a flight. The landscapes in the reserve are varied and very beautiful, there are incredible sightings to be had and there is a good variety of animals and birds too.

The two game drives via Tau Game Lodge were exceptional.

The two game drives via Tau Game Lodge were exceptional. Israel, the ranger, was very knowledgeable and friendly and was able to track down 4 out 5 of the "big 5" game. It was surreal being so close to some of the animals. Photo ops are aplenty. I have nothing bad to say about Madikwe.
