Shokinkan is a truly magical place operated by incredible people. Nestled in a gorgeous, ancient temple complex, the grounds are extremely fun to hike/explore during the day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of the place through thoughtful signage and the wonderful staff. The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. I will never forget this place!

This is a gem in the mountains not to be missed. There was tea and a snack waiting for us every afternoon in our room. We could see the beautifully carved temple and gardens from our room window. The meals were delicious! Many little dishes to make your mouth water served in our private dining room by the hosts who were exceedingly polite and friendly and explained what everything was. The baths could be taken privately with a partner. The bath was very clean as were the accommodations. A short hike to the top of the mountain gave beautiful views of the ocean and the Daisen volcanic mountain. This also went by the beautiful temple, which offers meditation sessions. There were two small stores nearby selling delicious sweets nearby. We cannot say enough good things about kouyoukan ryokan and it's hosts! A wonderful place to slow down and relax.

Place was really spacious. Two rooms with kitchen is very reasonable at that price . Loved the lake view which could be seen from window . Every thing was available there so really loved it . Beds were really nice . Staff was very polite and was very helpful. If you can’t speak Japanese it is fine . Very peaceful place

It’s really a nice place to stay with family . Really enjoyed 2 days over there . Amenities are great with high quality . Old house maintained very well. Having nice care parking and near by convenient store also there .

The location in a quiet rural road with lovely views the sound of birds and the peacefulness. Loved the authentic garden entrance and the features inside are beautifully done including the barrel bath.

My first 10 rating. Our room was fantastic, with a large sitting area, separate sleeping area with comfortable beds and private outdoor onsen. Staff were uniformly friendly, helpful and polite. Our meals were excellent and very filling. Each large window in our room looked out on different areas of an impeccably designed garden. We are already planning our next visit.

I liked that the switch for the lights and the thermostat were right on the bedside. I also liked the background music the TV played while on. It was very relaxing.
