One of my favorite stays during my Japan trip. Matsumoto is such a beautiful city, very communal and scenic. I loved my stay at Guesthouse Azumaya. The owner, Shotaro, is such a gent and very fun to talk to. He knows all the best spots around the area and was very accommodating. A special shoutout to Nozomi also, he is a very sweet boy and looks after the guests well. The hostel has the cheapest washing machine from any other hostel I've visited, and it runs completely off an honorary system whereby you put 100 yen into a coin box. There's shampoo, body wash and conditioner stocked in the shower, there's also a good hairdryer, all free of charge. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are just the right size to store all your belongings. The wifi is fast and reliable, perfect for any digital nomads. I felt very comfortable and welcomed, I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice and beautiful traditional house in Matsumoto, close to the castle and the city shopping streets with lots of cafes and restaurants. The house is spotless, comfortable, spacious and very well equipped with all the modern facilities. The interior decoration, the warm atmosphere and the attention to the smallest details are really amazing. Really friendly host; she met us, explained everything about the house and even left for us local grapes and water from one of the famous Matsumoto springs that was a nice surprise. We really enjoyed our stay in this charming house and definitely recommend it to everyone staying in Matsumoto.

I like the host, the food and the place itself. The house is old but inside there is a balance of old and modern facilities. I love the “makistove, the fireplace where you can just relax. The traditional bath tub was interesting and I think a must-try. The best part was the hosts who were very hospitable and kind. They served me delicious and healthy food while I listen to their stories. The cooking was amazing as they use their garden veggies and almost everything they made themselves. Staying there was a heartwarming experience. I can’t wait to come back here again.

The property locate in nice neighborhood area, just a few stop by JR train to Matsumoto city. It may dark at night when you walk back to home but it’s not scary at all and with daylight, there is lots of nature and mountain around. The ower also very informative, he suggest lots of nice places around the area :) we would definitely come back again.

There were toys in the common room for our toddler. Staff was super friendly, they even played with him from time to time. Also, we had no idea Matsumoto is so beautiful, when we were just looking for a place to oversleep on our way to Magome.
