Vacation Homes in Vila Real

The home is situated on a beautiful view hillside surrounded by grapevines. We were there for 3 nights. It is a family run agrotourismo, and they could not have been more welcoming. The house itself was spotlessly clean. Jorge welcomed us and showed us the property. We had the whole house to ourselves, with a complete kitchen. We decided to have our dinners at the Quinta, which was a good choice as the roads are curvy for our American driving style. We brought our own charcuterie one night, and another night we were able to have our dinner prepared by the Quinta owners. It was a delicious Portuguese meal from appetizers through fish and vegetables, steak and potatoes, desserts and wine. Amazing. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool and walking the 2 mile rural lane with views all around. This is a special place, and we thank the family for sharing it with us!

The property was an actual vineyard located by the water. This was a beautiful scenic and serene stay. They had orange and lemon trees in the property and we loved walking and picking up oranges to make fresh orange juice everyday. The property had everything you will need to make dinners. Just bring your veges/ milk/ and meat and you will be good.

I’ve traveled in Europe extensively over the past decade & stayed in many rental units, but this one may be the nicest of them all. Recently renovated and smartly designed to maximize space, the guest experience is superb. There are 5 large bedrooms, 3 of which have beautiful en suite full baths. There is a 4th full bath and then a 5th half bath for the other 2 bedrooms to share. So 4 showers and 5 toilets in total ensure everyone has privacy. Then there is a large shared living area with a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen so guests can spend time together in a shared space. There is also a very nice sized yard with a pool. The fridge was well stocked with way more food than we needed, and the private, gated parking is also a huge bonus. There is air conditioning in every room and everything in the city is a short walk away. Checking in and out was simple, and communication was fantastic. This is a great central spot to explore the Douro Valley, and I highly recommend it.

House is in a beautiful meadow, grape vines around. Large house, supplied with all necessities. Quiet and relaxing stay.

The hostess is remarkably nice. We immediately felt like we were at home. The house and backyard have plenty of space for people and pets, the pool is great and naturally warm, the living room is huge, and everything feels very comfy. The kitchen is also wide and well-equipped. It is located within 15 minutes of the city center, close to supermarkets, pharmacies, the river park, the mall, night clubs, etc.

Our stay at Casa do Caneiro was absolutely wonderful. The casa is almost indescribable. It is a very large space with many different rooms and indoor and outdoor areas (patios, a cool game room) that are beautifully restored and preserve the history and original architecture. Watching the stars from the top patio, and looking out across beautiful expanse of wild gardens and quiet cobblestone streets felt like being in a world apart. The sound of babbling water from the small channel that ran alongside the house, and the clopping of donkeys passing occasionally, added to the feeling of finding a secret paradise. Everyone we encountered in the village where Casa do Caneiro is located, as well as in Vila Real, were very kind and welcoming. It's a fantastic area to stay for nature, culture, and as a home base for day trips in the area. There is fantastic hiking, swimming, Douro Valley wine country, historical spots to visit (e.g., Mateus Palace, town of Amarante), and so much delicious food in the area. Also, Carlos is hands down the best host ever. His communication is excellent-- he was proactive in sending directions and check-in info, and provided recommendations of places to stop on the drive up from Lisbon. We arrived quite late at night, and saw that he had left us fresh fruit, local pastries, and a bottle of <insanely delicious> local wine. He was communicative and responsive throughout our stay. He is a gem. Truly, we cannot speak highly enough of Casa do Caneiro, Carlos, and the entire area. It is such a special place. We can't wait to come back.
