The breakfast was plentiful and delicious! We felt so special because we were the only ones there but the still went above and beyond to make a great meal and made it early because we had an early flight.

Breakfast was fabulous. We were pleased with provision of coffee plungers in the room, and coffee pods machine for shared use. Lovely garden, in a quiet setting.

Company info

Your hosts are Irene and Russ, originally from Brisbane. Our love affair with Tasmania began during a two-week holiday — and like many mainlanders (as the locals call us), we fell completely in love with Tassie. Within two months, we had purchased Glencoe and began restoring this beautiful country farmhouse to its former glory. What started as “just a couple of farm animals” has grown into a much-loved little herd. Irene enjoys tending the gardens and nurturing the veggie patch, which often finds its way onto your breakfast plate. She has a real passion for creating a warm and welcoming start to your day. Russ prefers working behind the scenes, ensuring everything runs smoothly so your stay is comfortable and stress-free. From property upkeep to the finer operational details, he keeps Glencoe ticking along quietly in the background. We take genuine pride in preparing quality food for our guests. If it’s not grown in our garden, it’s sourced locally wherever possible — supporting the region we now proudly call home. We live on the property in separate private quarters, ensuring your stay remains peaceful and relaxed. We’re always nearby if needed, generally between 7am and 8pm.

Property info

Nestled in North West Tasmania, Glencoe Country Bed & Breakfast offers a peaceful farmhouse escape just a scenic drive from Cradle Mountain and the stunning landscapes of the region. Built in the late 1800s as a working dairy farm, Glencoe has been thoughtfully restored to retain its heritage character while providing the comforts today’s travellers appreciate — where heritage charm meets relaxed country comfort. Set amongst rolling green hills with views toward Mt Roland, our small hobby farm invites you to slow down and reconnect. Meet the Highland cattle, wander the orchard and seasonal gardens, or unwind beneath our old pepper tree. In cooler months, relax by the log fire in the guest lounge. Glencoe is located in a tranquil rural setting, a short drive from the township of Sheffield. A vehicle is recommended, as we are not within walking distance of shops or restaurants — the reward is space, quiet and uninterrupted country views. Each private guest room includes: • Ensuite bathroom • Queen, King or twin bedding (subject to availability) • Heating and electric blankets • TV with streaming access • Tea and coffee facilities We proudly serve a generous continental and full cooked seasonal breakfast each morning on the deck or in our guest dining room — the heart of the Glencoe experience and the perfect way to start a day exploring the region. Glencoe is a traditional, owner-operated B&B and does not operate as a restaurant. We do not provide regular evening dinner service. On occasion, strictly by prior arrangement and subject to availability, a special dinner request may be accommodated. We are always happy to recommend excellent local dining options in Sheffield and surrounding areas. Ideal for couples and mature travellers seeking comfort, space and a peaceful rural retreat. The house is smoke-free (outdoor smoking only). Children aged 12+ welcome. No pets. At Glencoe, you’re not staying in a hotel, you’re staying in our home.

Neighborhood info

Glencoe is perfectly positioned in North West Tasmania, offering a peaceful rural base to explore some of the state’s most spectacular landscapes, walking trails and charming country towns — without needing to pack and unpack each day. Approximately one hour’s scenic drive brings you to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park — part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area — where alpine scenery, wildlife and world-class walking tracks await. Whether you’re enjoying the iconic Dove Lake circuit or simply taking in the views, it’s an unforgettable experience. Closer to Glencoe, Mount Roland rises dramatically above the region, offering rewarding hikes and panoramic outlooks. Just minutes away, Lake Barrington is popular for rowing, kayaking, fishing and water activities in a relaxed natural setting. The township of Sheffield — known as the “Town of Murals” — is only a short drive away. Enjoy its cafés, bakeries, country pubs and galleries while exploring vibrant murals that tell the story of the region’s heritage. Nearby Railton features whimsical topiary displays, while the wider region offers access to Narawntapu National Park, the Tarkine wilderness and scenic coastal drives. With so much within easy reach, Glencoe is ideal for multi-night stays — allowing you to explore the region at a relaxed pace and return each evening to comfort, quiet and a hearty breakfast before heading out again. On clear nights, and if you’re fortunate, you may even witness the Aurora Australis — the Southern Lights — dancing across Tasmania’s skies.
