The Short Stack is a free standing unit located next to our home, it is the original "Hazards Escape" and has been a popular choice for over 15 years. Up until this year, the Top Shack (next door) has been our home but a temporary move 30 minutes north has given us the opportunity to give it some much needed love & open it up for others. We've built our family here, and have made so many beautiful memories in & around this place, we're honoured to be able to share it so that you can make some wonderful memories here too.

Hazards Escape is located on a large internal block 5 minutes drive from the township of Coles Bay & consists of 2 separate dwellings which we've affectionately dubbed the "Top Shack" & the "Short Stack".  The Short Stack is the original Hazards Escape, a tidy, fully self contained little unit that sleeps 2 & has been a popular choice with visitors for about 15 years. The Top Shack is a brand new listing - until recently it has been our much loved home but a temporary relocation means that we can make it available to share - we really hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The Top Shack & the Short Stack can be booked either separately or together. Each have their own easily accessible parking spaces; arrival is via a longer than average gravel drive, most memorable for the long row of vibrant Kangaroo Paws lining the driveway. The Short Stack is built into an inclined block & offers a garden view, sleeps a maximum of 2 people in a queen bed, and is equipped with its own bathroom, living area, kitchenette, deck & parking. The Top Shack, our home, sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms. (2 x queen beds & 1 x double). The outlook from the main living areas is serenely pleasing, lingering out towards Great Oyster Bay, from the Hazards, down the Freycinet Peninsula & across to Swansea. Featuring a full kitchen, 1.5 bath, furnished front & back decks & BBQ, it is definitely more a home than a holiday unit. In both places, the most frequent comments we hear from guests is about the quiet.  The short stack is built into the earth, the Top Shack windows are double glazed, & both buildings are enthusiastically insulated which creates a sense of stillness. As an internal block we have plenty of neighbours, but none are permanent homes and almost all are facing away from us (to make the most of the same view we love!).  Obviously the summer months are busier - but any extra sounds are all happy holiday noises which we’ve always enjoyed.

There are several routes to choose from if you'd like to walk our local beach, known as Sandpiper, it can be s steep walk depending on the route but there are rarely more than a handful of people here - more often than not you have it to yourself and its our 'go-to' to just stretch our bodies, get some sand in our toes, and get re-grounded. It's also a popular Grom' spot, (AKA Grommet, definition: young person learning to surf) - if you're so inclined, head to the bottom of Meika Place - walk into the vacant lot a little and look into the left hand corner to check the swell. If the tide is all the way out, you can occasionally walk all the way around from Sandpiper to the "Sandbags" which is where the Swan River meets the waters of Great Oyster Bay. Alternative access to the "Sandbags" can be found at the bottom of Swanwick Rd as it intersects (becomes?) Swanwick Drive. Access to this little beach has been hit and miss over the years due to varying levels of sand - the steps downs are quite sturdy now but there may still be a little hop at the bottom so do take care. The Township of Coles Bay is a quick 5 minute drive, this is where you will find supplies at 2 local convenience stores, the post office, Granite Bakery (our fav for coffee), Iluka Tavern & Bistro, ScaleFish Takeaway, Geographe, The Ice-creamery and the bistro or fine dining restaurant at Freycinet Lodge. And most importantly, the entrance to Freycinet National Park and all our favourite walks. This is where you can explore until your heart is content, the all time favourite is naturally Wineglass Bay, but Mt Amos is not to be missed either and for shorter options you might like to check out Honeymoon Bay, Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lighthouse.
