House was fantastic but for 3 bedrooms, only one bathroom and two toilets. It was fantastically stocked: beach towels and pantry - made things very easy.

The location is perfect, right above the little pub/store/bottle shop and has a little view of the bay. The cabins are staggered so you are not looking right at your neighbor too. The beds were very comfortable, just wish it had a king size since my husband is a bed hog. :) Also the national park is just a short drive away with lots of beautiful hikes.

Property is a very private setting located on large acreage on the water that feels like a bird sanctuary. Birds, wombats, and wallabies freely roam the grounds. The two bedroom home is fully equipped for comfort and meals, including everything to make pizza. Outside there is a large deck that leads to a sauna, hot tub, plunge pool, wood fired pizza oven, stargazing and fire ring. Cole’s Bay is close for restaurants and groceries, and Freycinet National Park is close for excellent hiking, swimming and ocean views. Can’t wait to go back. Enjoy!

What Guests Said About Coles Bay:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

Coles Bay is gorgeous.

Coles Bay is gorgeous. There are only a handful of eateries and a general store. We had dinner at Geographe Restaurant and Iluka Tavern. Both good. The beach is lovely and would be great to swim in being quite shallow and good for kids. There are lots of broken shells so water shoes would come in handy. The walking tracks are great, very well maintained and signposted. It is a national park so permits need to be purchased to do any of the walks. The camping ground is in a sensational spot right on the beach.

The beach is beautiful and an easy walk.

The beach is beautiful and an easy walk. It is a great location with many spectacular sights very close by. The lighthouse at Cape Tourville is a definite for amazing views of the Bay. Access is very easy, including wheelchair access. Honeymoon Bay is also well worth a visit. It is sheltered enough for those wishing to take a dip and has lovely areas for a beach picnic. And even the local wallabies are inquisitive!

Coles Bay in Tasmania is an absolute gem—one of those rare places that feels both breathtakingly wild and warmly welcoming. Nestled beside the stunning Freycinet coastline, it offers crystal-clear waters, powder-white beaches, and unforgettable views of the Hazards. The relaxed coastal vibe, abundant wildlife, and easy access to iconic walks like Wineglass Bay make it perfect for both adventure and pure relaxation. It’s the kind of destination that stays with you long after you leave.

We enjoyed the Wineglass Bay loop hike in Freycinet National Park. It was close to the weekend (Friday) so probably many more people, but we had a great time looking for wildlife and enjoying the natural surroundings. We opted for the Holiday Vehicle Pass, which was good for four weeks in Tasmania even though we were only staying a week. We spent a couple of days at Frreycinet and later at Cradle Mountain National Park, which was much less than the cost for daily park entry.

The local cafe in Coles Bay was great, perfect coffee, great pastries, service with a smile. The roads are in excellent condition and you can drive all day without encountering issues. I would suggest a visit to Bicheno for lobster rolls (Lobster shack) and oysters (Marine farm). The walk up to the viewing platform for Wineglass Bay was worth the 400+ metres of steps. The sun is super strong, plan ahead.

The first room I checked into had a very strong smell of varnish (resurfaced floor I think). The night receptionist was very helpful and promptly arranged for me to move to a different (upgraded) room. Breakfast is included in the rate and was excellent. I ate at The Bay restaurant one night (excellent) and Richardson's Bistro the other night (different type of meal but very good). Location is great for walks etc. The Wineglass Bay Cruise from Coles Bay will pick up from the Lodge Jetty most days.

The cottage was amazing, so private with access to the beach out the front and on to Coles Bay. The restaurant attached to Edge of the Bay is exceptional.
