Kaalba is perched on the hillside only a hundred metres from the Obi Obi Creek. It is a delightful self-contained studio with views out over the rainforested valley. It is in a quiet and protected location. Throughout the year more than ninety species of bird can be seen (and heard) from the veranda. When it's raining the sound of the river fills the valley. Situated on the east side of Maleny it is seven minutes from the town centre and ten minutes from Montville – only thirty-five minutes to the coast – close to several of the most popular wedding venues on the Range. This is a special place: a short walk leads to a deep fifty metre long swimming hole with basalt rock steps. A little further and you'll discover the waterfall and rapids. Platypus live in the creek, if you're an early riser you can almost guarantee to see them. Modern, clean, well-designed and furnished this is beautiful place to stay, as our many guests attest.

Tyyni and I have lived in the region for 30 years. We're both strong conservationists interested in looking after our land and the surrounding rainforest. We're also bookish people. I am a published author and Tyyni is the former owner of two (2!) bookstores in Maleny. We've travelled widely and know what we want from accommodation and are committed to provide it for our guests.

Maleny is a fascinating town. It's in the Hinterland of the Sunshine Coast and presents a startling difference to the development down there. It's in dairy country, rich and green and has a vibrant community. The town itself is a real town, supplying the needs of the residents of the Range, but also boasts fourteen cafes in the main street, three bookshops, art galleries, clothes shops and two supermarkets.
