ince February 2015, Merrimeet has been owned and run by a young family of 3; Alistair, Kellie and Josie. In September 2015, this grew to a family of 5 with the addition of two twin baby girls called Maya and Heidi. Alistair was raised in Tasmania, Kellie hails from Scotland and together we try and provide for our guests with a combination of laid back Tasmanian warmth and welcoming British charm.

Merrimeet Cottages is a small, family run business set in a hectare of English woodland. The residence is a grand Tudor house accompanied by three separate garden apartments and three river cottages. All contain wood fires, reverse cycle air conditioning and are self contained. The rambling gardens flow on to the Canyon walk along side the Ovens River, the centre of beautiful Bright 5 minutes walk away.

Bright is a gorgeous little town nestled in the Ovens Valley between the townships of Porepunkah and Harrietville and surrounded by the Victorian Alps. The close proximity to the ski resorts Mt. Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt. Buffalo make it an ideal location to put your feet up after a day’s skiing in winter. The vivid colours of the variety of deciduous trees provide a stunning display in the autumn months, complimented by the popular Bright Autumn Festival. There is a variety of restaurants catering for every taste and budget, a bounty of picnics spots and parks, a new boutique cinema, a new kiddie’s water park to compliment the river and its water slide and plenty of lovely cafes and pubs to just sit outside and while the day away. In the surrounding areas, there are vineyards, bike trails, mountain hikes and fishing spots in abundance. There is far too much to do for me to simply summarise here but we will be happy to give you some suggestions when you come to stay.
