Harrietville Caravan Park
Nestled at the base of Mount Hotham along the iconic Great Alpine Road, the Ovens River Retreat offers a peaceful alpine retreat in the heart of Harrietville. Positioned just 50 metres from the banks of the beautiful Ovens River and only a short five-minute stroll to local cafés, restaurants and country pubs, the property combines convenience with the tranquility of Victoria’s High Country.
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Victorian Alps, the guest house provides the perfect base to experience the region’s year-round attractions. From skiing, hiking and mountain biking to fishing, scenic drives and riverside relaxation, guests can enjoy both adventure and escape in equal measure. Designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, the home is ideal for families, couples or small groups seeking a relaxed alpine getaway. Whether you are exploring the alpine region or simply unwinding beside the river, the Ovens River Retreat offers a warm, comfortable and authentic High Country experience.
NATURE & HIKING The Alpine National Park — Victoria's largest at over 646,000 hectares — surrounds the area, encompassing the state's highest mountains, rivers, forests, and snowfields, and is home to a diverse range of native animals and vegetation. The Mount Feathertop Trail leads to Victoria's second-highest peak, rewarding hikers with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. WINTER & SNOW SPORTS Mount Hotham, located between Harrietville and Dinner Plain, is an alpine village that receives higher natural snowfalls than any other Victorian ski resort, with more than 80 ski runs and 13 lifts in operation. Falls Creek is also nearby, offering skiing and snowboarding through the winter months. FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES Mountain Fresh Trout Farm is set in a peaceful 7-hectare setting, offering a great family day out — catch your own fish or stroll by the breeding ponds fed with pristine spring water, with fresh and smoked fish available for purchase. HISTORY & LOCAL CHARACTER The Ovens River meanders through Harrietville, lined with attractive parks including Pioneer Park, which features a museum and displays of the region's history. The town also boasts a homemade ice creamery, cafes, hotels, galleries, and handmade wares for sale. CYCLING Harrietville is a key starting point for the Victoria's 7 Peaks Ride, an independent cycling challenge running from late October to early April that takes riders to the summit of seven Victorian Alpine Resorts along mountain roads with breathtaking vistas. DAY TRIPS Only 22km down the road is the bustling town of Bright, with a variety of retail shops, galleries, and cafes.
