Over a century ago, Leura was the site of several large residences built by various orders of nuns on prime sights on the crest of the Leura hill. One of these, St Raphael (circa 1902) remains. It is a former convent and local landmark. Today it boasts three elegant, self-contained holiday accommodations set in a 6000sq. metre private estate with a rambling Sorenson garden and views to Sydney. Comprising of The Convent, The Old Chapel and The Priest’s Cottage, guests will stay in the original buildings, reflected by their names, which have been refurbished to provide modern comforts within the luxurious style of an old-world setting. The three accommodations are totally separate with no common walls. Each has its own private entry, outdoor seating area and adjacent parking, all stunningly set among rambling Sorenson designed gardens on a 6000 sq. metre private estate atop the hill, central Leura. Please be aware that when booking the Chapel & Convent for 2 Guests only & you wish to have the second Bedroom. There is a surcharge.
St Raphael is centrally located, only a leisurely 5 minute stroll (300m) from Leura Mall, the railway station, taxis and tourist hop-on-hop-off buses. The charming Leura village has an outstanding selection of cafes, restaurants, a tempting variety of contemporary and quaint boutique shopping and art and craft galleries, as well as bars, a Woolworths supermarket, news agency and post office.
