Nestled in a former castle estate near Bruges, Hof van Straeten is a place to slow down. With only three guest rooms, silence still exists here. No televisions. No constant noise. No rush. Just the sound of wind through old trees, long breakfasts, quiet evenings by the fireplace and the feeling of finally being able to breathe again. The estate carries a history dating back to 1184 and was once closely connected to the Lords of Bruges. Today, a different story is growing here. A story of rest, simplicity and reconnecting with yourself. Wander through the walled garden, discover the young food forest, sit beneath century old trees or simply do absolutely nothing for a while. This is not a place to tick boxes. It is a place to land.
Welcome to Hof van Straeten. We love creating a place where people instantly feel at ease. Warm, unhurried and genuinely cared for. As passionate travellers ourselves, we know how special it feels to arrive somewhere that immediately allows you to exhale. Nature plays a big part in our lives. You will often find us in the garden, caring for the estate, enjoying the outdoors or sharing quiet moments with our animals. Our two gentle dogs may happily come and greet you, and our horses are always nearby. We also love good food and meaningful places and are happy to share our favourite restaurants, hidden gems and fine dining recommendations in the area. Most of all, we hope you will feel at home here and leave a little lighter than when you arrived.
Hof van Straeten is perfectly located for those who want both peace and discovery. The historic city of Bruges is only a 15 minute drive away, yet the atmosphere here feels worlds apart. Surrounded by woods, castle estates and open landscapes, this region invites you to slow down. The nearby polders stretch all the way to the sea and are known for their unique light, wide horizons and protected nature reserves, including the Uitkerkse Polders. The Belgian coast is only 20 minutes away. For a more elegant seaside atmosphere, Knokke-Heist offers art galleries, luxury boutiques and long walks along the promenade. The vibrant city of Ghent is also within easy reach and makes a perfect day trip for those who love history, culture and lively terraces. But many of our guests discover that the real luxury is simply returning here afterwards. Back to quietness, candles, nature and stillness.
