Those communities are a mere 5 minute ride on the local light rail (S-Bahn). The same train takes you to downtown Munich within 40 minutes. Connection to a faster regional service is available in Tutzing or Starnberg, reducing total travel time to Munich’s central station to 35 or 32 minutes, respectively. From Tutzing you may also connect to regional trains going to Weilheim, Murnau (Staffelsee), Kochel (Kochelsee), Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mittenwald, Seefeld (Tyrol) and Innsbruck. Traveling by car, Federal Highway 2 (B2), better known as Olympiastraße, and the Autobahn / Interstate (A952 + A95) are your best choices. Via the Autobahn it‘s an easy 30-35 minute drive to Munich’s city center. The ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is less than one hour away.
