We are the proud owners of a peculiar building in Spain Seville Constantina, which in seven years we restored and renovated with great care to what it is now. Called LOS POZOS DE LA NIEVE, the above mentioned construction has been awarded with a price and a special mention by the local Authorities and the Europa Nostra Awards 2006(See photo) in recognition of a valuable contribution to the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage. We are both Belgians after living 5 years in Africa (Tanzania and Nigeria) we settle and worked in Spain -Andalucía now for over 30 years.

Los Pozos de la Nieve, situated in the Sierra Norte/ Sierra Morena of Seville, a building of the XVII the century with his exceptional historical and industrial value, has been awarded with a price and a special mention by the local Authorities and the Europa Nostra Awards 2006 in recognition of a valuable contribution to the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage. Due to its orientation, two big pits were constructed to concerve the ice produced in small pools outside. ths ice was to provide the city of Seville. Striking is that these pits are incorporated in the building, to form one constructional, harmonious site. On the façade one still can find the ‘escudo of Seville’ dated from 1696 and a marble plate with inscription that the "Ilustrisimo Cabildo y Regimiento of Seville" bought the building…the period when Carlos II was the King of Spain…On the main floor, which breathes an atmosphere of a Moorish temple, you can find the chapel authorized by Pope Inocencio XII in 1697 and dedicated to "The Virgin of the Ice".

Neighborhood info

Constantina is a nice village, with lots of special corners, full of joy. It is situated in the Natural park of Sierra Norte de Sevilla, declared natural Heritage by the Unesco and it forms part of the largest biosphere reserve in Spain, denominated " The Dehesas de Sierra Morena". Nearby you have the villages of Cazalla, San Nicolas, Alanis. Also worth visiting is the Cerro de Hierro, the Hueznar river and waterfalls, and to enjoy the walks in the area, of which information is available. Bicicles can be rent at Cerro de Hierro, to visit the via Verde. Horse riding can be arranged, etc...
