Each of the 17 exclusive apartments in the palace Palace of Tirso de Molina elegantly combines its glorious past with its modern interior design. The Palace of Tirso de Molina was built in the mid-17th century and the grandeur it once boasted has been gracefully restored as part of its recent comprehensive renovation. The original geometry of the facade has been respected down to the original glass panes and panelling. Its period balconies with wooden shutters overlook the pedestrianised square, dedicated to the playwright after whom it is named. The entrance boasts a large white marble hallway with original plaster stucco ceilings leading to a staircase of wrought iron and wood. Through this passageway guests are led to the masterpiece of this converted palace: a beautiful interior courtyard, which has been fully restored.

Neighborhood info

The square we know today, which runs from the streets of La Magdalena and Plaza de Antón Martín as far as Calle del Mesón de Paredes, was built on the former site of the Convent of La Merced in the mid-19th century and was originally called Plaza del Progreso. This name was retained until 1939, when it was officially renamed after the playwright of the Spanish Golden Age, Tirso de Molina. Today, this vibrant and colourful square continues to be crossroads of cultural expression and exchange. A slice of historic Madrid located in a prominent part of the city centre, Tirso de Molina is located only 500m from the Puerta del Sol and less than 100m from Madrid's oldest and most authentic street market, El Rastro, which is open every Sunday and public holiday.
