Ronda is a beautiful city to walk around and I would particularly recommend eating at Tragata, or for authenticity and tradition try tapas in El Porton. The nearby plaza offers the local fare at El Bandolero or a finer meal in Almocabar or El Zucio. Do not miss a visit to the 5 generation run family bakery Alba directly behind the house and open from 7.30am until 2pm. The surrounding landscape is stunning so I would recommend taking a stroll down into the gorge or out beyond the barrio to experience the majesty of this landscape. I spend every weekend on long walks and picnics. I am sometimes on the property, but more often out and about since I live in the countryside where we also have properties to rent. My children go to school in Ronda so I am usually back and forth all day. I am happy to answer the telephone should you have any queries however Nazaret may be better at answering your questions since she is responsible for the day to day running of the property. The cottage is over two floors with a private terrace from the upstairs bedroom. It is a separate building at the back of the property, situated in the corner of the courtyard of the renovated 18th century house. The kitchen and sitting room open onto this courtyard. We can provide a cot and a high chair. Formerly owned by the legendary bullfighter Pedro Romero, whose crest is carved into the stone portal . Credited with the invention of the classical style of bullfighting and with the completion of the Ronda bullring, it is understood that he bought this plot to build in the late 1780s. In the ensuing years, a wealthy owner gifted it to one of his trusted labourers and from this point on it became a home to farming families. And to the chickens, pigs, cows and donkeys that lived in the courtyard or that were brought in from the fields through the grand front doors to shelter at night. Hams were cured and hung from the rafters and the hooks and beams remain today. The house retains its colloquial name as the school house, Casa La Escuela, although the doors were closed many years ago, and only reminiscences of the former owner Dolores brings this part of its history to life.

Located just outside Ronda’s celebrated city walls, beside a historic convent, it enjoyed a rural setting, while being just a five minute walk to the city centre. Today it is in view of the charming Almocabar gate, which leads into the old town of Ronda, and sits by the quintessential Spanish square Plaza San Francisco. Once a well kept secret, the shady, tree-lined plaza, replete with fountain, play park, benches, bars and restaurants is already a favourite with locals but gaining popularity with tourists yearly. Smart new restaurants now flourish their tablecloths beneath the leafy canopy while a 4 star boutique hotel is due to open shortly. Bakeries, butchers, grocers and fruit and vegetable shops line the narrow cobblestone streets nearby. Best of all however, you are just 200m from the classic Tajo walk which leads down into the famous gorge below Ronda. In two other directions are other signposted walks, which lead to some of the best views in Christendom.
