Clos Mira­bel is a beau­ti­ful fif­­teen-acre es­ta­te bet­ween coast and moun­­tains. Its 18th Cen­tu­ry Manor House is set in pri­­va­te park­­land amidst the gen­­tle hills of Ju­ran­çon with mag­ni­­f­i­cent un­in­ter­rup­t­ed views out over vine­­yards to the en­tire chain of the Py­rénées At­lan­ti­ques. The owners lived in the Manor House for 2 years before undertaking major renovations in 2005, re­tain­ing as many of the his­tor­i­cal fea­tures as pos­si­ble. The re­sult is a con­tem­po­rary house with do­mot­ic elec­tric­i­ty, so­lar pan­els for hot wa­ter, un­der floor heat­ing as well as en­vi­ron­men­tal heat and air con­di­tion­ing pumps. The pool is part­ly heat­ed by so­lar pan­els and is open from mid-May to the end of Oc­to­ber. The waste wa­ter at Clos Mira­bel is treat­ed by a na­t­u­ral sys­tem us­ing reed beds, an en­vi­ron­men­tal en­gi­neer­ing pro­ject us­ing tech­nol­o­gy de­vel­oped in Ger­many.
The owners fell in love with Clos Mira­bel and its breath­tak­ing views over 13 years ago. French-Ca­na­dian An­dré is a re­tired di­plo­mat; Ann worked in the trav­el in­dus­try and public af­fairs. They both have a keen in­ter­est in health and well­be­ing. Ann has a keen in­ter­est in psy­chol­o­gy; daugh­ter Emi­ly at­tend­ed French school and fin­ished her se­condary ed­u­ca­tion at the in­ter­na­tio­n­al school in Pau.
Clos Mira­bel is a few min­utes from Pau with its Chateau, golf cour­s­es, race tracks and on­ly 30 mi­nu­tes to Lour­des. It is less than an hour from the moun­­tains, ski re­sorts, cy­cling routes and hi­k­ing paths of the Py­rénées At­lan­ti­ques. Biar­ritz, on the At­lan­tic Coast, is an hour away as is the Span­ish bor­der. San Se­bas­tian in the Span­ish Basque Coun­try is on­ly an hour and a half away. Bil­bao with its Gug­gen­heim Mu­se­um is an easy day trip. Bor­deaux and Tou­louse are two hours away.
