The OVO Network team’s opinion - Up to eight guests can enjoy the bright interiors and modern comforts at Lodge Skadi, right in the centre of the village of Essert-Romand. There are four bedrooms, each with a TV and en-suite shower or bathroom with a WC. If you need to work remotely during your stay, you'll find desks in two of the rooms. One of these rooms also opens onto a spacious terrace where you can relax on the sunbeds. Lodge Skadi also has four balconies (one on each side of the building) and three large covered terraces, one of which is home to the hot tub. There's an outdoor dining table on another, where you can enjoy a meal in good weather. The living room on the upper floor has a beautiful exposed roof frame. Large windows mean it gets plenty of light and enjoys splendid views of the mountains and the resort of Avoriaz. The lounge area, with corner sofa and television, is separated from the fully-equipped kitchen by a dining table. On the lower floor there is a TV room with a PlayStation console, as well as a practical ski room with a heated boot dryer, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, bike repair equipment and a dartboard. Essert-Romand is a great base for guests wishing to explore the 12 ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil area, including the neighbouring villages of Morzine and Montriond. With 650km of excellent pistes and 200 ski lifts, you'll discover a winter sports paradise spanning the border between France and Switzerland. There are plenty of activities for non-skiers too, including ice skating (indoor and outdoor), snowmobiling, ice climbing, tobogganing and, of course, snowshoeing and sleigh rides. In summer, the chairlift continues to operate, giving you easy access to a network of trails for hiking and mountain biking. Other activities include climbing, rafting, via ferrata, canyoning, mini-golf, fishing and kayaking. The Morzine-Avoriaz area has been awarded the “Famille Plus” label for its programme of activities and facilities for children. It boasts two water parks and two summer toboggan runs. Indiana Parc in Morzine offers tree-top assault courses, rafting and many other activities, while Parc des Dérêches has swimming pools, tennis courts, an ice rink, a skate park and a riding centre. Finally, don't forget to visit the Lac de Montriond for a day's swimming, the Brochaux waterfall, the local cheese farms and the weekly farmers' markets.
