Situated on Navigation Road, 58 Cocoa Suites is close to all main attractions and the city centre can be reached on foot in 5 minutes. York Minster is about 15 minutes away, and the Coppergate Center where the Yorvik Viking museum is located is less that 10 minutes. The Barbican centre , which hosts everything from snooker to concerts, is easily reached just a few minutes walk away. York has a lot of bars and restaurants, and many quirky and independant ones are only a short walk away in Walmgate and Fossgate. Try the pizza at The Hop in Fossgate - we think it is the best in York. There are large supermarkets (Morrison's and Waitrose) on Foss Islands Road which are within easy walking distance, and several 'local' supermarkets nearby. Rowntree Wharf, home to Cocoa Suites, consisting of five stories and a nine-storey water tower is probably York’s best industrial building. Originally one of the largest flour mills in Europe, situated between the river Foss and Wormald’s cut, towering over the district of Hungate. The building is Grade 2 listed and the outside has not changed very much since it was constructed in 1860. The mill closed in 1930 and in 1935 it became the Rowntree and Co’s Navigation Warehouse. Gradually it fell out of use as road transport replaced river transport. Cocoa beans were brought to the wharf until the 1960s. In 1989 it was converted into flats and offices by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the offices being converted again in 2018 into the Cocoa Suites apartments.
