Property info

Amy's Cottage is a charming semi-detached cottage, which sits in a beautiful rural location, just minutes from the popular town of Sherborne. Surrounded by a large garden and amidst rolling countryside, there are numerous pretty villages within easy reach, and the location is ideal for exploring the delights of Dorset and the Jurassic Coast.

Neighborhood info

Information correct at the time of writing. The popular town of Sherborne is just a ten-minute drive away and offers an Abbey, two castles and some great independent cafes, restaurants and shops. The Jerram Gallery in Half Moon Street, established in 1993, exhibits contemporary British art and holds six exhibitions throughout the year featuring both established painters and sculptors along with emerging young artists from across the UK. A wonderful new addition to the town is The Sherborne, ‘a landmark destination for the arts' with an excellent cafe/restaurant and events programme. To truly discover Sherborne and its history you need to explore it on foot. There is a fascinating and picturesque walk around the Sherborne area entitled ‘Raleigh’s Country Retreat at Sherborne’. The 6.4 mile route, which takes in country lanes, gentle hills and pretty villages, reveals the legacy of Sir Walter Raleigh who formerly lived in the Norman castle before building his own manor house on the outskirts of the town in 1594. Within a short drive are several National Trust properties including Montacute House, Lytes Cary, Tintinhull and Barrington Court, and all are worth a visit if you have the time. The Stourhead Estate with its famous house, lakes and magnificent garden is just a 25-minute drive away. Mapperton House and Gardens, voted the nations finest manor house by Country Life and the location for the 2015 Thomas Hardy adaptation of "Far from the Madding Crowd" is well worth a visit. A trip to the county town of Dorchester is recommended where you will find a selection of museums including The Dorset County Museum or perhaps visit Thomas Hardy's house at Max Gate or his cottage at Bockhampton. Dorchester has a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants and a walk around the Iron Age Hillfort of Maiden Castle just outside the town will help to ‘blow away the cobwebs’. A visit to The Newt with its magnificent woodlands, gardens and fine eateries is...
