Neighborhood info

Information correct at time of writing. Ashclose Lodge Annexe is just a 10-minute drive from the charming market town of Sherborne. Sherborne offers a packed events programme, an impressive array of independent cafes and shops, two castles and an abbey with an illustrious history. The building is renowned for its ceiling - a fan-vaulted construction - one of the best examples of its kind in the country. Two Saxon kings – King Ethelbald of Wessex and his brother King Æthelbald of Wessex – are buried here as is the poet Sir Thomas Wyatt. The Sherborne, ‘a landmark destination for the arts' with an excellent cafe/restaurant and events programme, and well worth the short trip. Within a short drive are several National Trust properties including Montacute House, Lytes Cary, Tintinhull and Barrington Court, and all are worth a visit if you have the time. The Stourhead Estate with its famous house, lakes and magnificent garden is just a 25-minute drive away. A trip to the county town of Dorchester is recommended where you will find a selection of museums including The Dorset County Museum or perhaps visit Thomas Hardy's house at Max Gate or his cottage at Bockhampton. Dorchester has a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants and a walk around the Iron Age Hillfort of Maiden Castle just outside the town will help to ‘blow away the cobwebs’. A visit to The Newt with its magnificent woodlands, gardens and fine eateries is recommended, and is conveniently just 10 miles away. A trip to popular Bruton must include a visit to Somerset Hauser and Wirth, a stunning contemporary art gallery with wonderful gardens and great eatery options too, all just a pleasant 30-minute drive away. The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton is within easy reach at just over seven miles away, and ever-popular Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford is a must for all car enthusiasts, and a 15-minute drive from Ashclose Lodge Annexe. At Glastonbury, history, myth and legend...
