Many walks can start from the cottage - maps and guides are provided. Half a mile in the quaint village of Gayle is the famous Wensleydale Creamery where you can taste many cheeses, visit the visitor centre cafe and shop. The market town of Hawes is a mile from the cottage, with independent shops, pubs and cafes. The community office in Hawes has a library and post office. The petrol station is available 24 hours. for those interested you can also visit the sheep and cattle auction market and visit the on-site cafe there. The Dales Countryside Musuem and Tourist Information are housed in the Victorian railway station buildings. There is a large play park for children.
