WARNING — this hotel is absolutely not being managed at the level you would expect from a modern 4-star property.
The building itself is beautiful and the hotel is clearly still benefiting from the excellent reviews and reputation built by previous owners, but the actual experience we had was a complete disaster.
There is effectively no real reception or staff presence on site. Nobody was available when we arrived, the entire property was locked, our keys were trapped inside the building, and nobody answered the phone numbers provided by the hotel or Booking.com despite repeated calls.
Without another guest randomly waking up and opening the front door for us, we would literally have been left outside at night despite fully prepaying our stay.
You are essentially left completely on your own.
Also be VERY careful regarding the bathrooms and comfort level in some rooms. Several rooms apparently do not have proper showers. In our case, the room only had a bathtub with no shower hose, no shower head, no attachment, nothing at all. The hotel simply leaves a plastic jug beside the bath so you can manually pour water over yourself to wash.
Honestly, this is the kind of thing my great-grandfather described from decades ago — not something you expect in a hotel marketed as a 4-star property in 2026 charging premium prices.
Completely unacceptable experience and absolutely not the standard represented online.

Grassington can be very busy in the summer months, especially when being used for recording All Creatures Great & Small.
Car parking is very limited in the market square, however there is a large car park just out side the main area (5 minute walk).
Lots of places to eat, with plenty of options for GF customers.

Stunning location, excellent walks. Lovely shops. The unspoilt village is beautiful, it’s like going back in time.
Parking at the visitor centre is within easy walking distance if the square and very reasonably priced for a 48 hour stay being only £8.50!

Such a quaint little village with a couple of nice pubs that served good quality food and drink. Lovely little shops and all the local shop owners were very lovely and friendly. Highly recommend the “Stripey Badger Cafe,” in the village for a hearty breakfast.

Such a lovely area, cute stone houses and small independent shops and cafes, it really is a wonderful village to wander round, I’ll love to live there! We also walked to Linton Falls and St Michael’s church, which were worth the visit.

The food at the grassington House hotel is first rate and the wine bar is lovely.Its a gateway to the Dales and and because its the setting for all ceatures great and small its like actully looking round darrowby.

Rooms are incredibly clean and spacious with a fabulous power shower. Breakfast was lovely and well thought out by giving you a menu card to fill out the night before so they knew what to cook for you in advance.
As we travelled in August I was so pleased to see a desk fan on top of the wardrobe to provide cooler air, which made for a very pleasant nights sleep.
The location is perfect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales

Central location, a few steps from the village centre. Very comfortable lounge and a delightful secluded garden. Two very nice breakfast rooms serving a beautiful, and substantial, Yorkshire breakfast and free easy parking. Service and attention from all members of the Ashfield House staff was superb.
Nice touches, such as complimentary sherry and an honesty bar.

The location was perfect for us following the first day of the Dales Way. The lodge is situation right in the village centre in easy reach of shops, pubs and food options (of which there are many!) and the room was clean and comfortable.
