Downham Hall is a family run property renovated in stages since we purchased it in 2017. We have a great team alongside us who are helping us take things forwards all the time. We have added a great kitchen team to produce excellent food using local providers, we have a caring housekeeping team keeping our carefully crafted rooms clean and a wider team helping the gardens stay free of weeds, full of flowers and that the views are easily seen. We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, Coronavirus has hit us hard like so many but we are back up and running now and looking forward to welcoming you all so soon.
We love seeing guests come, get a great night's sleep in the country side on our expensive beds. Then we love seeing them roll into breakfast and enjoy all our food and wander around the garden's before tackling their day. We have so many regulars as well and those becoming friends is great fun. We are pretty obsessive about feedback received and try to adapt as positively as we can to everything. Turning a house from a home to a business has been a lot of work but now guests are really getting to appreciate it and we love that.
Essex is not a famous tourist destination but has the longest coast line of any English county, it has beautiful countryside across it's large area. There are so many pretty villages, coastal towns and great places to eat and drink. We think Essex is a hidden gem for visitors, it's proximity to London means it has less need for tourism but with so much going on it is for sure worth a long weekend. Downham is a pretty village in a rural spot but near enough to trains and good roads to be convenient. There are lots of lovely footpaths and country parks very close by, several passing by the front of the property. Cyclists also love it round here as great roads to cover some lovely miles on.
