Bed at Byways is a self-contained, double-bed apartment, situated in the quiet village of Holton, Somerset, 5 mins from Wincanton and A303. We are a perfect stopover location for those travelling to the West Country or attending weddings or celebrations at the many local venues. We are also ideal for those needing accommodation for work or parents needing somewhere to stay while visiting their children at one of the local independent schools. The apartment has double bed, shower room, TV, sofa, dining table and chairs (which can be used for those needing to work), fridge, combination microwave/ oven, portable electric 2-ring hob, kettle, toaster, breakfast basket, driveway parking. The Old Inn village pub and restaurant in Holton is open Tuesday-Sunday and only a 5 minute walk from the property.

My husband and I live in Holton with our two children. We have lived in the village for 20 years and love the area. We work locally and enjoy the Somerset/ Dorset counties for their countryside walks, quaint towns, cultural events and coastline- if we travel further afield. We aim to greet our guests on arrival. If that is not possible, we can leave a key securely for collection. We provide a guest pack which includes useful information about the local area. We will answer questions and provide local information as best we can.

Holton is a small rural village in Somerset, close to the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire. It is a peaceful spot, yet conveniently situated only a 5 minute drive from the A303 the market town of Wincanton which has a full range of essential services- supermarkets, post offices, pubs, restaurants and independent shops. The local pub, The Old Inn is a freehouse and serves excellent, home-cooked food. It is within a 5-min walk of our home (open Tuesday-Sunday). Many good pubs and restaurants are within a 5-10 minute drive. The abbey town of Sherborne is 8 miles to the south with quaint shops, tearooms and the historic Abbey and castles. Other popular market towns nearby include Castle Cary (7 miles), Bruton (7 miles) and Frome (11 miles). Bigger popular destination towns including Wells, Glastonbury, Street and Shaftesbury are within half an hour’s drive. From Holton, many attractions are within a 15 minute drive. These include Haynes Motor Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum, NT Stourhead, Hauser and Wirth art gallery, The Newt estate and Wincanton Racecourse. We are ideally situated for those visiting schools at Sherborne, Bruton or Hazelgrove. The A303 is just 5 minutes by car, making Byways an ideal stopover for those en-route to or from the South West. The nearest train stations are Templecombe (4 miles) and Castle Cary (7 miles). Several taxi services serve in the area. The Berrys bus operates from London Hammersmith to Wincanton daily. As the name suggests, Bed at Byways is well served by a network of public footpaths. Walking maps are provided and take in the neighbouring villages, including Maperton, Blackford, Charlton Horethorne and North Cheriton. All local facilities are available in Wincanton including supermarkets, Post Office, library, tea shops, pubs and take-away restaurants.
