Beryl has been our family home for the last 45 years. We have spent our time lovingly furnishing and restoring it as a fine example of a Gothic Revival style English Country House. If you have time before your visit to look at our website you will find plenty of up to date photographs and useful information, such as good places to eat in Wells and the local area. The majority of our guests leave their reviews on our own website so we recommend you read some of them if you want to know what they think. As a family home we value our time here as well as doing everything we can to make our guests feel at home. As a result we limit the numbers of people in the house and estate and ask that guests kindly adhere to our check-in and check-out times. Beryl Country House was built in 1850s in the Gothic Revival style. It has been the home of the Nowell family for the last 45 years and has been welcoming guests for much of that time. The reception rooms take you back to the grand days of English Country House living, with elegant proportions, Georgian furniture and Chinese Porcelain. Complimentary tea and home-made cake is available every afternoon, and wonderful breakfasts are served on classic china, with silver cutlery and teapots. There are 6 guest bedrooms each with a perfect blend of antique furniture, modern appliances, and wonderful views of either the gardens, the Mendip Hills or Wells Cathedral and the Somerset levels towards Glastonbury Tor. Set in acres of parkland the main lawns sweep down past the outdoor pool and Japanese Garden to rows of Rhododendrons and Camellias. Formal planted borders surround the house and the estate also boasts Coastal Redwood trees, woodland with beautiful English bluebells, and 200 year old oak trees.
