Sensational sea views. Sleeping accommodation was well laid out with a thoughtfully equipped kitchen and diner. Perfect for a family holiday. Secure and safe garden for our dogs. Owner was helpful and informative.

We had four generations staying in The Farmhouse, and two dogs! We had a wonderful time. The house was very ‘home from home’ and met our requirements very well. The view from our garden was exceptional and moved my 91 year old mum to tears. She...

Beautiful peaceful location. As I was by myself + dog for some of my stay, it was good to know that the host and other people were around. Good directions to location and plenty of information about the surrounding area.

Property info

Hillockhead offers peace and tranquillity - whilst being close to the nearby villages of Rosemarkie and Fortrose with its range of shops, restaurants and bars. The vibrant city of Inverness is half an hour away. However the feature that almost all visitors comment upon are the views. Many of the windows and balconies offer superb views of the Moray Firth. From Lossiemouth in the east (25 miles) to Ben Nevis and the mountains of the west which are even further away - the views are stunning – particularly from the bench on the lower lawn. The famous Moray Firth Dolphins can often be seen, particularly in summer. Binoculars or a scope can offer superb views from the property and gardens as the dolphins feed around Chanonry Point. Or of course you can drive down to the point itself, though parking is limited particularly at peak times. The properties are surrounded by lawned areas, away from traffic great for recreation. relaxation and outdoor dining on the large benches. Many visitors spend hours sitting on the bench watching the sea. A path leads to the beach below Hillockhead a 25 minute walk. The nearest sandy beach is at Rosemarkie a 15 minute drive away. You can normally park on the front.

Neighborhood info

Hillockhead is set in extensive lawned gardens with stunning views. Only a few metres from the property and you are in mature woodlands with a path down to the beach - though this is quite steep. There are plenty of tracks for walking. Wildlife abounds with pine marten, badger, stoat and weasel all seen in the garden. We feed the birds all year round. Highlights include: Brambling, Siskin, Lesser Redpoll, Yellowhammer, Woodcock, Pink- footed goose, Curlew, Buzzard, Red kite, Peregrine, Hen harrier, Merlin, White-tailed eagle and Sparrowhawk. Marine life includes: Bottlenose dolphin, Harbour porpoise, basking shark and Grey and Common Seals. Otters are not uncommon along the coast. Very rare sightings include Orca, Fin, Humpback, Minke. North Atlantic Bottlenose Whale and Long-finned Pilot Whale.
