"Inverness is known as the capital of the highlands for a reason, it’s the gateway to an entirely different side of Scotland. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants, shopping, and transportation around town. Everything is pretty much walkable and within close proximity to the castle and other attractions. We loved Inverness and highly recommend a visit. Everyone was extremely kind and accommodating, which enhanced the experience. There were also plenty of day tours out of the city to surrounding highland areas. We will be back!"

"Coylumbridge was a great location - close to Aviemore, but far enough away from the 'big town' to have no traffic and just trees and the river. Quite a few lodges on site now - not just the hotel, but we stayed in the hotel and it was great. The lodges may feel more 'centre parcs'. Aviemore has good enough facilities for our trip - pet friendly cafes and restaurants, a Tesco and good green space. Also great to get to a lot of good tourist spots. The Aviemore Kart centre was great fun as well - recommended."

"I found Kyle of Lochalsh really friendly. The hotel I stayed in was amazing and the staff ultra helpful. The cafe I had baked potato, chicken mayo and cheese in was really nice and friendly, the food amazing. The gift shop beginning with O was lovely and I bought a couple of necessities for the rest of my holiday (scarf and beanie). The Islanders pub in the evening was really fun atmosphere and a good mix of locals and tourists."

"Thurso is a lovely town, full of history. Be sure to visit the museum, situated in the former town hall, old St. Peter’s church near the harbour, and take note of the meadow well on trail street and the many examples of fine architecture. The walk along the riverside is a must with the old mill and boating pond. A walk from the beach esplanade along Victoria walk(the cliff top path) will give you a good view of Thurso bay and Scrabster. There are plenty of eateries though for best value a bar meal at the Pentland Hotel would be hard to beat. They also off the best breakfasts in town and an incredible carvery buffet on Sundays. My only criticism is of the taxi companies which we found to be unreliable as they were either late or didn’t show up at all. Very disappointing."

"I loved this little town. Great history with Loch Ness and Urquart Castle. We stayed one night but could have used a little more time. We saw the castle but did not visit and would have liked to take a cruise on the water. We stayed right by the Loch Ness Museum and loved this little area with the shops and restaurant (breakfast/lunch). It's not big so not a whole lot of choices for restaurants. We were there mid March which is still off season so some restaurants were closed and most places closed early (by our standards)"

"Portree is beautiful. The drive up and around the coast of skye is nothing short of magnificent. The view from Tor View is gorgeous. The countryside is amazing, the town was a bit crowded - not easy to find parking, and plan ahead for dinner - this might have been a post Covid, low staff issue that will get better, but there was a long wait for most restaurants - if you get there early (5:30ish) you’d get in. Our stay was fabulous, would highly recommend."

The overall feeling of the manor was superbe, the staff was super nice. I loved the history and details in the house, I love that it's a part of the experience. I LOVED the floor heating in the bathroom and the little chocolate marshmallow on the bed. I loved he abillity to make tea.

We were traveling by motorbike and the staff went out of there way to accommodate us. There is a dedicated area to dry and warm your kit when you are done riding for the day. There is also a covered garage to store your motorbike for the evening. The "Fox's Den" is a wonderful room to sit by the fire and warm yourself after a long days ride.

I arrived with my partner for his birthday and we both had a great stay there. The staff was amazing and very friendly, they even gave my partner a birthday card with the best wishes from them all and put a candle in his desert. We really enjoyed staying in one of their pods- floor heating was a nice surprise to have in the wintery days. The full Scottish breakfast was very tasty and so was their dinner. We tasted their rum and had tasty beer in their cute small bar. The location is great! So many things to see and enjoy around. I highly recommend the place and wish I can visit them again in the near future.

The atmosphere / vibe of the Inn, the location, the food, the staff, the amazing bar and restaurant out the back. Bonus - it was adults-only. Local musicians came and played for us on the Sunday night which really made our evening. The room was cozy, warm, the beds were really comfortable, and the views outside when you wake up of the mountains are incredible!

Beautiful and convenient location. In front of the loch, close to Fort William and all services. Clean, comfortable, quiet with everything you need. Kid really enjoyed the playgrounds especially the zipline and watching the train pass under the bridge at the entrance (don't worry we don't hear it from the house)

Inverness is a great town.

Inverness is a great town. Plenty of places for coffee and food. Plenty of bars. Good shopping centre. I recommend Coyote for burgers and The Old Town for fish and chips. If you have time take a drive to Nairn, the beach is amazing.

We travelled via the Highlands and it was spectacular views! Fort William has a few known shops but not many restaurants so book a table if you are going. We had dinner at the cinema and food was ok, then took a stroll round the town. Just outside the town is a shipwreck you can walk to and a multi layered lock which was impressive. It’s not too far from Loch Ness. It’s quite touristy but that is expected as it’s on the foot of Ben Nevis.

Portree is cute quaint town. If you have a car, stay any where. Supermarket at Coop. Skye Batiks is serendipity. The post office is sad. Love the sheep. First encounter with shaggy cows. Passing places patience and lots friendly waves

Aviemore is a great base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, beautiful scenery and easy access to walking trails and nearby attractions. The town has several good restaurants and cafés, making it a pleasant stop on a Highlands road trip. One night was just right for us, but outdoor enthusiasts could easily spend several days here.

Ullapool is an attractive port and small town with some great restaurants and cafes. We had a fine fresh seafood supper and malt whisky tasting at the Seaforth restaurant. Considering its size and location it is pretty cosmopolitan. We visited a pub with live music and a wonderful atmosphere. There is also a garage with E5 fuel which is a consideration in this part of the world.

To visit the Isle of skye requires time if you really wish...

To visit the Isle of skye requires time if you really wish to see what’s there. We spent two nights in a guest house in Broadford, which was a great location and a little less expensive than the rest of the island. There are plenty of restaurants and food choices around and Portree is an easy drive. I would recommend travelers have at least three nights on the Isle of Skye if you really want to see and walk what’s there

The scenery was beautiful.The monster fish and chip shop is well worth a visit it lives up to its name lol.The walk up Glen Doe is worth the hike to see the stunning eagle.Avoid Cobbs restaurant not at all good.Highland Hideout restaurant is fantastic and the staff are so friendly.

Drumnadrocht is in the heart of Loch Ness which is a lovely place. The Village of Drumnadrochit has little to offer, overpriced and awful food, little choice, not much to do unless you want to look at tourist tatt all day long. If I was to go again, I would stay in Inverness city and travel to the Loch Ness activities, its not far away. The city is great and has lots of choice.

Bigger town than I expected but not a tourist town.For the visitor it is a place to stay then go round the coast to catch the ferry to Orkney. The visitor centre and museum is a great place to spend some time exploring.
