We loved this hotel, while a few complained it was "dated" we thought the decor added to it's appeal-like visiting an older relative's comfy home. All the staff were top notch in service and friendliness. Also, a great value!

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. This breath-taking track has hosted numerous world cups as well as the 2007 World Championships. Stop along the way to try the local whiskey at Ben Nevis Distillery.

We travelled via the Highlands and it was spectacular views!

We travelled via the Highlands and it was spectacular views! Fort William has a few known shops but not many restaurants so book a table if you are going. We had dinner at the cinema and food was ok, then took a stroll round the town. Just outside the town is a shipwreck you can walk to and a multi layered lock which was impressive. It’s not too far from Loch Ness. It’s quite touristy but that is expected as it’s on the foot of Ben Nevis.

We were disappointed with Fort William itself.

We were disappointed with Fort William itself. We went in search of the Tourist Office following the sign post only to find there wasn’t one. Many shops were boarded up and the whole Main Street lacked any vibrancy. We didn’t have time to explore any of the places mentioned below so cannot comment on them.

I come to see the places I have enjoyed over many years when we came camping as a family. Therefore it is fir me looking at the places much loved, but also new additions and changes. . These include, walks through Glen Nevis. Through the most fantastic Nevis Gorge. Walkkng through the High Street. More recent changes now include lovely shops and eating places, including the cinema which is marvellous. I also enjoy the train ride to Carrour, to see beautiful Loch Oissian and have lunch or dinner in the Station House. Lots to see and do in and around Fort William.

Never been before would be unlikely to return.

Never been before would be unlikely to return. Very much orientated for walkers finishing the West Highland Way or doing other outdoor walking adventures. Shops selling things for walkers or tourists with lots of tartan, whisky and highland Cows. Not a pretty place. It rained for our entire stay (in July) which didn't help. We visited Culloden and Isle of Skye which was at least a 2 hour drive there and back. Next time I think Inverness would be a better location.

The loch and surrounding views are gorgeous.

The loch and surrounding views are gorgeous. We took a hike to Steall Waterfall which was a great adventure. Also visited The Harry Potter Bridge (Glenfinnan Viaduct). A short walk up the hillside to see this iconic railroad bridge, and if timed right a Steamie will cross the viaduct. Much more to see and do but we were only there for two nights.

Fort William has a naff sea-front area but don't let this put you off. The main street and the town centre are nice, and there's a stack of lovely eating places, pubs and shops. The surrounding area is spectacular, with unlimited things to do. We did the Jacobite Steam train to Mallaig which was wonderful, but for free stuff, go up Glen Nevis and do the hike up to the wire bridge at the head of the gorge. It is stunning, it is do-able with an easy clamber in places, and great fun to cross the river on a wire rope bridge. You can get a bus up part of the way.

Had a lovely one night stay at this hotel. Enjoyed and found our room comfortable and had an amazing view. Food was lovely and excellent prices. Staff were all friendly. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Hotel to anyone visiting Fort William. Only thing that we thought that needed to be given more thought to was the area where you wait for the lift. Location location location A very pretty hotel from the outside. We stayed here as it was a short walk to the Harry Potter train ride we booked. Was also great to walk into the centre of Fort William. Staff friendly and they had two dining options, however we ventured into the centre for Pizza and burgers.
