Welcome to our 'Perfect Piece of Paradise'! We aim to give you a 'home from home' experience. We are relaxed and attentive hosts and we have a wealth of knowledge about special, "MUST DO activities" to share with you! Garragh Mhor is both quaint and comfortable. You will have your OWN DOOR KEY so you can be as autonomous as you wish. We have large gardens; and numerous 'Sit-ooties', some with fire-places others with views across our quarry pool to the historic village and the sea-scape beyond. Our guests love to relax in the gardens or sun porch when 'at home' in our modern and cosy rooms; a short walk takes you into the village of Ellenabeich where we have 1 pub offering a range of food; another pub and restaurant a short and another just 5 miles away as you cross the famous "Bridge over the Atlantic" onto the Isle of Seil. We can connect you with tour guides; sea-kayak instructors; specialist wildlife excursions; or trips onto the shimmering sea to visit iconic destinations such as IONA, STAFFA, the GARVELLACHS or "THE HAG" (3rd largest Whirlpool in the world) just off shore. We are excited to share this special place with you! We think you will love it as much as we do! It is WILD, BEAUTIFUL, QUIET and MEMORABLE. Be aware that we are NOT IN OBAN - we are located 25 minutes drive SOUTH OF OBAN. We have a remote island feel, whilst being able to access the GATEWAY TO THE ISLES and the KINTYRE PENINSULA
Hello! Daz and I would like to welcome you to Garragh Mhor. We look forward to meeting you and sharing our place and passions with you. We don't come from typical 'hospitality' backgrounds, but we don't let that hold us back! We are both artists; Jan is also a Nutritionist and Homoeopath; Daz is a Traditional Blacksmith and Wheelwright! We discovered this place by sea - being keen sea-kayakers. We have the "BEST GUESTS", we aspire to be the 'BEST HOSTS' too! Expect a quirky, friendly, passionate pair to welcome you! We are into ecology, nature and gardening (Daz grows much of what we eat). Our vegetarian menu uses locally sourced free-range ingredients where possible and we are always looking to improve what we offer. We don't expect you to be vegetarian, but many of our guests enjoy trying new foods with us - we are always happy to work with you to make sure you enjoy your breakfast. We are committed to providing healthy options too and we are happy to cater to special dietary requirements. More than anything though - you will get a warm welcome, a great vegetarian/vegan breakfast, a comfortable room, and a listening ear. We are nature and animal lovers and you will see we have 3 elderly cats as pets. Please note - our pets are not allowed in the B&B but, if you have a serious cat allergy - this may not be the best fit for you! If you love nature and natural rugged beauty, you will love where we live.
Our secret Scottish Island hideaway, on the Isle of Seil, has the best of both worlds. A remote island feel AND easy access to the famed Kintyre Peninsula AND Oban, "The Gateway to the Isles" - just 15 miles to the North. Garragh Mhor is an ideal holiday location with plenty to do for the nature lover. Boasting some of the best sailing and sea-kayaking in the UK. The Firth of Lorn and environs is teaming with wildlife; porpoise, minke whales; otters, eagles, buzzards, herons and sea-birds. The view from behind the house is one of the best in the Western Isles. Walkers, cyclists; artists, photographers, UK tourists, and overseas visitors flock here to appreciate the stunning light and scenery. Easdale is historic too! Ancient iron-age forts and burial grounds of ancient Scottish / Pictish kings at 'Valley of the Kings" in Kilmartin Glen is nearby. Ellenabeich was once a thriving Slate mining community and we have a folk museum and gift shop to explain it all. Our guests often remark on how profoundly peaceful it is here. It has an ancient feel, whilst still being close enough to Oban with its sea-side attractions; ferries, a distillery, a chocolate factory, and bars. You won't be bored!
