Breakfast was delicious. Cold starters (yogurt with fruit) and pastries on buffet table then hot breakfast to order. Live entertainment in the bar on Friday was fabulous. Dinner was delicious and then we stayed to watch Starsky perform until the bar closed.

The location was great, right along the seafront in Oban. The place was spotless and in excellent condition. But what set it apart for us was the staff and the overall service. Carrie was informative and friendly throughout our stay. From the warm welcome, to helpful information during our stay, through to the friendly goodbye to us and our dog on departure, she and the rest of the staff made the visit one we hope to repeat. Breakfast, too, was well executed and made for a nice start to each day.

The place was great, with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and stunning sunsets. The hotel staff were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. I ran into an issue with my rental vehicle, and both the owner and staff stepped in right away without hesitation—they really went above and beyond. The location is fantastic—just a 10-minute drive from Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Bowmore distilleries, plus right next to a great rum distillery and beer brewery. It’s also only about a 30-minute drive to Caol Ila (home of Johnnie Walker) and the ferry to mainland Scotland. Highly recommend this place, and I’m already planning on coming back!

Everything about this hotel was perfect – the service, the staff, and the atmosphere. Highly recommended! The food was amazing and staff were very friendly. We needed to get to Kennacraig Port early in the morning but couldn’t find a taxi. One of the staff members went above and beyond and drove me there! Thanks to their help, I made it to Islay without any problems. Truly amazing hospitality!

Hamish, the general manager, was filling in as bartender. He was SO friendly and welcoming! He spent several hours chatting everybody up and making the atmosphere wonderful. We loved his banter with his English friend haha This location was great and every staff member went out of their way to say hello and chat. Highly recommend!

Lots of tourists... the locals are friendly and helpful.. Chinese Restaurant in Stafford Street was lovely.. Beef Curry was amazing Markie Dans just off the esplanade was brill,, the atmosphere, food/drink and staff were great.. Plenty wee gift shops, coffee shops and the scenery is breathtaking.. Cant wait to go back

Travelled around Loch Lomond and chose to stay at Arrochar as a stop over on the way to Glennafin viaduct the next morning. Lovely town, nice promenade to walk, good spots to try chips nearby, would come back.

Toberomory is a charming seaside town and the main village of Isle of Mull, which is a gorgeous island accessible only by ferry. The first day of our stay we took a tour of the bay with Tobermory Bay Tours, and walked around the town and its environs. The second day of our stay we did a drive around the island, which made for gorgeous views, although driving on single-track roads was a bit harrowing for these Americans. We brought along a delicious picnic lunch purchased at Tobermory Stores, which has lots of local goods (Isle of Mull cheese, smoked goose breast, and local salami). They also have a variety of pasties, including vegan pasties that my vegetarian daughter enjoyed. We enjoyed the Pier for a cozy and delicious lunch (try the smoked haddock soup). For dinner, highly recommend MacGochans which has local seafood (we had the langoustines, which were amazing). We also enjoyed dinner at the Gallery, where I had an amazing carbonara. Absolutely recommend Tobermory for a taste of the Hebrides that is much closer to Glasgow and Edinburgh than Isle of Skye, and not heavily touristed (in mid-June at least)

Very picturesque location right on the shores of loch Fyne, nice wee local shops and a few places to eat. The castle and grounds are worth a visit along with the jail and bell tower all of which are in walking distance.

Luss was a beautiful ancient village with loads of character, shops, cafes, restaurant. Distillery was amazing and a must visit. Lovely beach along the shoreline with water sports and fabulous Loch cruises to other islands etc 10/10.

Lovely seaside town with lots to see .the open top bus tour was very enjoyable goes all the way around the Isle of Bute views are lovely great way to see all the villages round the island.the driver was very knowledgeable sharing lots of information we learnt a lot.castle is definitely worth a visit very interesting if you enjoy a bit of history.lovely promenade along the sea front with plenty of benches and areas to sit and enjoy the view depending on the weather of course.plenty of bars to enjoy a drink or two a few of them had live music on the Saturday night when we were there.you won’t be stuck for food at lunchtime lots of cafes we had a delicious hot dog from the food hut at the front next to the ferry terminal .unfortunately we were very disappointed by the lack of choice we had for dinner at night we googled restaurants in Rothesay before going and there seemed to be lots available but sadly this information was not up to date and a good few of these places are no longer open or are no longer serving food. We found that the few restaurants available that we would have chosen were already fully booked up in advance and also only open till about 8pm so be aware and book these places well in advance of your trip .we managed to get a seat at gather deli on the Friday evening they do a pizza and pasta deal at the weekends and it was excellent .we managed to get a table in ambiance on the Saturday which I had read good reviews online but the choices on the menu just were not to our taste I realise that’s a personal thing and the venue itself was lovely and friendly so do your research and book in advance so as not to be disappointed.have a look at Bute yard and see what’s happening there during your visit it’s a lovely venue with lots going on .that being said we still had a lovely weekend and would definetly visit Rothesay again.

The area is nicely located in between several lochs. Many footpaths can be used, some are easy and even suitable for smaller children, others are more demanding like going on top of some of the nearby summits with great views. Swimming is possible in several locations, also for smaller children. If you are on self-catering, make sure to grab enough food on your way up as there is hardly any local foodstore. The picture shows the view from the Tarbet "house mountain" (Cruach Tairbert) down south, Loch Lomond left, Loch Long right.

looks like it is dying. unfortunately. Empty ugly shops are off putting. Ayr decorate shop windows of closed shops ( Picture of pictorial scene). Tried to visit museum but no notice of opening times available. Always closed when we visited. Campbeltown easy to navigate on foot and eating places large and small were all clean and offered good food and refreshment. Streets were clean but have very little charm due to vacant unmaintained buildings. Budgets are tight but a little money spent on shop fronts would raise standard of the town greatly. Nice mix of shops to suit all ages and taste.

Our favourite experiences were the peaceful surroundings of Ruskin Lodges, the beautiful Glen walks and exploring the stunning scenery around Loch Eck and the Cowal Peninsula. The area offers a perfect balance of tranquillity, outdoor activities and breathtaking Scottish landscapes. We enjoyed some excellent local pubs during our stay, particularly The Coylet Inn on the shores of Loch Eck, which offered great food, a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful views. Dunoon is very easy to get around. There appears to be a good local bus network, although we chose to travel by car, which gave us the flexibility to explore the surrounding area at our own pace. The roads are quiet and scenic, making driving a pleasure. For active families and teenagers, there is plenty to enjoy, including Glen walks, fishing, watersports on the lochs and numerous outdoor adventures. The region is also an excellent base for scenic day trips, allowing visitors to experience some of Scotland's most beautiful countryside and coastline. The ferry service from Gourock is frequent, reliable and easy to use, making travel to and from Dunoon straightforward and stress-free. Dunoon offered everything we were looking for: peace and tranquillity, stunning scenery, excellent food, friendly local people and plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure. It was a memorable holiday and somewhere we would gladly return to in the future.

Craignure is a perfect base for exploring the Isle of Mull, the ferry from Oban lands here. Situated virtually at the mid point to travel to either Tobermorey or Fionnport (Iona) and all that lies inbetween.
