Everything, this is our second stay here during our Scotland holiday, great place to wind down in and then use as the base for further outings. We had a chat to the some neighbours who were great and welcoming. Please give this gem a go we don't...

It was very comfortable, in a quiet location, in a great village, close enough to major routes through Scotland.

Holmlea is a cosy, sandstone cottage c. 1840, nestled in a quiet, pretty little road in the friendly village of Freuchie. With light, spacious, high-ceilinged rooms, Holmlea has an arty, vintage style, and is a welcoming, comfortable and relaxing space. There is free parking in the road opposite the cottage, and a large, free car park (25m away). Most of our guests tell us they feel instantly at home on arrival, and many don't want to leave! Holmlea has many original features, and we have added a beautiful cream Jotul stove with Delft tiling in the living room, with sweet little insect illustrations. All of the artworks in the cottage are original, as we are an artistic family, and some are available for sale. Outside, although there is not a garden, there is a bench where you can sit out in the sun, and a small back doorstep area where you can also take chairs and a table out. In the bathroom there is a great shower over a bath, and the kitchen is well equipped and has basic supplies of tea, coffee, sugar, oil and condiments, and a few extras. There is antique and up-cycled furniture throughout the cottage, and lots of interesting and useful little touches. This is not your average holiday let! Please note that although the cottage is all on one level, there is one step up at the front door and three at the back. We have designed the cottage to be homely, comfortable, attractive and the sort of place we would like to stay on holiday, and our guests love it, we have many return visits and fantastic reviews. There is a very comfortable sofa bed in the living room, so we can accommodate 4 guests - suitable for adults or older children. Licence No. FI 00095 F EPC rating D
I am an artist and have loved creating a vintage style for the cottage. I also teach art, and run the cottage with my husband Geoff who is a musician. We have a lovely family which now includes two beautiful grandchildren, dogs, cats and budgies!
Freuchie is a lovely, friendly old village, and the cottage is located in a very pretty, tiny little road which becomes smaller until it leads over a wee bridge over a burn, and then leads out towards the picturesque Lomond hills, perfect for walks with or without dogs. There is a local grocery shop five minutes walk away from the cottage, and there is also a 24 hour garage with a good sized shop just outside the village, and the Albert Tavern is also nearby - our guests are often adopted by the friendly villagers! Round the corner is the Lomond Hills Hotel which has a restaurant and bar. The legendary Pillars of Hercules is a short drive away, a characterful cafe/restaurant with a very laid-back atmosphere, delicious home baked food, and health store - lots of tables outside and in. The Lomond Hills are on your doorstep for amazing 360 degree views, you can drive up to a car park below the peaks and then walk to the top if you are fit!and the historic village of Falkland is a five minute drive away and well worth a visit, for its beautiful old buildings, famous tea rooms, gorgeous gift shops, and the fascinating and beautiful Falkland Palace and Gardens, which features one of the oldest tennis courts in the world. Outlander was filmed here. Falkland Estate is great for lovely walks, very popular with dog walkers. Heatherhall Woods is 5 minutes drive away and also lovely to walk with or without dogs. Freuchie is a fantastic base for exploring Fife and surrounding areas - there are beautiful golden, sandy beaches at Elie and St Andrews (both 30 minutes drive away), Tentsmuir forest and Kinshaldy beach, and numerous other beaches and pretty harbours in the East Neuk. Golf courses abound of course, including the Old Course itself at St Andrews and Lundin Links (20 minutes drive away). For sightseeing you can easily reach Edinburgh in one hour, St Andrews, Dundee, Perth and Culross where more of Outlander was filmed, worth seeing!
