We stayed in the Bothy, which is lovely. The estate is stunning, very secluded and the ideal location for a quiet week in nature. We have loved Ayrshire, the coast is a well-kept secret and there are plenty of places to see inland too, Dumfries...

We wanted a quiet spot with a small enclosed garden for our dog and both aspects were available. A good place to stay before a visit to Dumfries House, which we enjoyed.

No1 1 Ramageton is our 4th holiday home on the Carnell Estate. The Estate is over 2000 acres and this cottage has a separate postcode from the other cottages so it can't appear on the same booking .com page for some reason. The cottage is part of a small homesteading of 6 other cottages although the others belong to long term residents. The cottage has fantastic views of rolling fields and our dairy farm in the distance. It's a great spot to relax or as a base to tour Ayrshire and the rest of Scotland. The cottage is fully modernised and bright and airy. There is a garden and a raised deck. There is plenty of convenient parking. The interiors are country modern and you will find a fully kitted-kitchen, fresh linen in the bedroom and fluffy towels. The sitting room is cosy and comfortable with a small sofa bed if required although we do charge a supplement for extra linen/laundry. The cottage is pet friendly although the garden is not fully secure. We can supply a bed, bowls, towel and blanket and charge a supplement for extra cleaning.
Micky and I live in the main house on the estate which is about a mile from your cottage. We are readily available if needed but also leave you to enjoy your privacy. If you want to the tennis court or fish the pond, this is usually not a problem unless we have guests in the main house. If tennis and fishing are a high point of a visit, then best to check availability before you book. From October through end of January, the Estate runs a shoot. The shoot has been here for well over 80 years and if you are opposed to shooting, a stay may not be best advised. In the main season, we shoot at most twice a week. Micky and I love travelling too so we are always keen to meet fellow travellers from around the world.
The cottage is within easy reach of a number of local attractions including HM The King Charles III newly restored Dumfries House and Gardens. Culzean Castle is slightly further afield along the dramatic Ayrshire coastline. Troon, Prestwick and Ayr all offer fabulous white sandy beaches. The Scottish Maritime Museum is 30 minutes drive in Irvine and is a very interesting as well as child-friendly place to visit to discover Scottish seafaring and shipbuilding industry. Glasgow is 35 minutes drive with its wealth of restaurants, museums and culture and Edinburgh is about 75/90 minutes away depending on rush hour traffic. For local food shopping, we tend to head to Kilmarnock or Prestwick alhough Ayr has a fabulous top fishmonger called Pieronis, there is a craft bakery, Bhaillie and a Saturday farmers market on the high street. The butcher, West Coast Foods in Prestwick has excellent meat and also prepared food items such as pies. There's also a fantastic fruit and veg shop with most of the good stuff hidden at the back and where local chefs shop. We get our eggs from Corrie Mains, they're the BEST; fresh and free-range.
