Don’t miss a stroll over to Fort Henry, a magical gothic folly sitting beside a large lake covered with water lilies. Exton Park is home to the Gainsborough family. The house and grounds are occasionally still used for weddings, and regularly as a location for film and photo shoots. The parkland has existed since the 12th Century, and the gardens witnessed performances by Handel in the 18th Century. The old potting shed now forms the on site honesty shop where essential items can be purchased. Should you fancy a night away from the firepit during your holiday, you’ll find no shortage of pubs and restaurants within easy reach of your Lantern & Larks site including Admiral Hornblower, Wheatsheaf, The Larder and Orbis. Less than three miles from Exton Park, guests can visit the famous Rutland Water. One of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, it’s a famous nature reserve which is home to over 25,000 waterfowl – perfect for birdwatchers! Rutland water sports centre is located on the shore at Whitwell and offers sailing, canoeing, kayaking, power boating and windsurfing for different ages and abilities as well as children's activity days. The centre has a shop stocked with clothing, accessories and equipment and also offers equipment hire and tuition for those who want it.
