The Carriage House Matlock Bath was originally built to house horse-drawn carriages for the main House. Currently occupied by your hosts. Built in 1839 the carriage House is set within the steep hillside of Matlock Bath. Storing both character and modern features, The carriage house will provide you with all the cosy comforts you need for a romantic getaway or an active week in the Peaks. The property is Adjacent to woodland walks and approx. 800 metres from Matlock Bath train station, shops, bars, restaurants and River Derwent where you can hire a boat, take a stroll down Lovers Walk or a cable car up to the Heights of Abraham to explore the mining caves, museum and take in the views over a spot of lunch. The property has allocated parking. The entrance is approached via its own stone staircase leading to a patio and outdoor seating area. Front door leads to first floor living/dining kitchen area with beams. Stairs lead to the ground floor: 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Bed linen, towels and hairdryer provided. No smoking and no dogs. This property is considered unsuitable for the less mobile due to its elevated position.
Just over a mile away is the world first water-powered cotton spinning mill, developed by Richard Arkwright in 1771 in Cromford. The mill structure is classified as a Grade I listed building. It is now the centrepiece of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a multi-use visitor centre with shops, galleries, restaurants and cafes. Further a field is Crich Tramway Museum, cycle hire on the High Peak Trail and lovely Lea Gardens, and within 10 miles Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston House (NT), Carsington Lake Water sports centre and the bustling market town of Bakewell.
