The people in town were very friendly.

The people in town were very friendly. In shops and restaurants everyone talked to us. Of note were the Rutland Arms restaurant, as well as the Wheatsheaf Pub. And of course, the Bakewell tart shop. The town is charming. We came to visit Chatsworth House. But given more time we would have also visited Haddon Hall. The riverbank is also beautiful. The murmuration of starlings in the evening was another plus in an already charming town.

Bakewell is a charming town, plenty of individual shops, plenty of welcoming cafes and pubs, ideally situated for Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and other equally interesting locations. Travel by local bus services is perfect

Raja’s Indian restaurant is a must go to.

Raja’s Indian restaurant is a must go to. Had a lovely meal and friendly staff. Bloomers bakery must have a shout out. Friendly and helpful staff. Thank you to both these places. Bakewell is a beautiful place and well worth a visit. Loads of ducks and birds on river. They don’t bother you if you are sitting eating. Well behaved. Area around river is very clean despite all of wildlife. Loads of benches all over to rest weary feet. Don’t go there expecting to keep to you diet.

Well placed for visiting Haddon Hall and the Thornbridge Estate, Buxton and the Peak District in general. Bakewell is a very charming place to enjoy a drink, a bite to eat or just to browse. The market is superb, lots of attractive gifts available, foodstuffs and craft items. A delight to visit. We were self catering so didn’t eat out everyday but Hassop Station Cafe on the Monsal trail is a must - variety, freshly prepared, oodles of choice, wonderful. Also space aplenty and large car park.

Bakewell is a lovely town in the Peak District, well located...

Bakewell is a lovely town in the Peak District, well located for Chatsworth and the Monsal Trail. It has all you need, a supermarket, brewery (not essential but we enjoyed it), nice places to eat, variety of cafes and shops to mooch round if fancy a lazier day. Then there is the choice of the local delicacies - Bakewell puddings or tarts, it was the latter for me!

A surprisingly well preserved market town with gorgeous architecture and history. If you like tea shops and eating pastries you won't be disappointed. The town is hilly in places with uneven paths, which might be a challenge for some oldies or wheel chair users. Chatsworth House is a short drive or bus ride away and well worth a visit. Bear in mind you probably need at least half a day to see it all.
