This charming, award-winning, family-run Edwardian residence has an beautiful location just 328 feet away from the seafront, the sandy Livermead beach and the quiet, tree-lined meadows of Cockington Valley Country Park. The Charterhouse is in mature gardens with a patio, large lawn and a small seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. The center of Torquay is within walking distance. The delightful Edwardian building contains light, airy rooms and offers charming, comfortable bed-and-breakfast accommodations. Some rooms have sea view. Breakfast consists of a continental option, a delicious full English, home made breads and jams, and a vegetarian alternative. Family rooms are available. Pets can also stay, providing you are booking either of the 2 'pet friendly' garden rooms. There is a large, free private car park and free Wi-Fi internet access is available.

Property info

The Charterhouse is a beautiful Edwardian villa , which has maintained a homely feel and a sense of its history. Our overiding aim is to ensure our guests feel welcome and at home. Our large garden is a beautiful area to sit and relax, at one of the many seating areas, and feel at one with the countryside. During the cooler months our guest lounge provides a comfortable and cosy area to unwind. We have recently added a large outdoor terrace with sea views and a comfortable seating area. Our rooms are all very unique in size, but all tastefully decorated to reflect the heritage of the house and the contemporary needs of our guests. Our breakfast menu is very important to us. Christophe works hard to source local produce, carefully cooked to provide a perfect start to the day with enough variety to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. We have recently added beauty and massage treatments on site, which can be pre-booked to add the finishing touch to a relaxing stay. Our therapist is fully qualified and able to provide a range of treatments.

Neighborhood info

The Charterhouse is ideally situated between the sea and the picturesque village of Cockington . A walk to the village along the stream, through the water meadows takes about 15 minutes. Once there, you can enjoy a cream tea surrounded by thatched cottages, visit Cockington Country park and its local artisans or stop by the local pub. The visitors' centre always has details of any special events, but a firm favourite is the horse and carriage ride around the estate. A walk in the opposite direction and along the sea front leads you to Torre Abbey and grounds, a good selection of bars and cafes and eventually into the town centre. Along the way you can stop off at the big wheel ,which offers stunning views over the bay. The Princess Theatre is also within a 20 minute walking distance and offers an excellent variety of live theatre events.

The Charterhouse does not have 24-hour reception facilities, so please provide an estimated time of arrival when booking. Check-in is usually before 18:00. No arrivals after 22:00 are accepted.

Please note that the hotel does not accept cats. Pets can only be accommodated in the Small Double Room with Patio and Large Family Room (2 adults + 2 children) with Garden View, and cannot enter the main house. Please inform the property prior to arrival if your are traveling with a pet.

Please note that guests who book 'room with breakfast' rates can choose from a variety of breakfast options including Continental, Full English and Vegetarian.
