The location is perfect, isolated enough for it to be quiet and not be disturbed but only a mile walk to Salhouse broad. Not far to Wroxham either. The food, evening meal and breakfast were excellent.

Company info

The Lodge at Salhouse is the latest restaurant and bar to join the Colchester Inns family, run closely alongside the Recruiting Sergeant in Horstead. The businesses are overseen by Matthew and Nicola Colchester, who have had over 30 years experience in the trade, picking up an award or two along the way. In 1989 the Recruiting Sergeant was taken over by the Colchester family and the Colchester Inns name grew as additional locations opened over the next 25 years. The strong business ethos has been apparent throughout the years, with a strong focus on producing fresh, seasonal dishes and offering a well-stocked bar. Other sites within the group include the Rising Sun in Coltishall, the Black Boys in Aylsham and the Bucks Arms at Blickling. Locals and visitors alike are warmly welcomed by our friendly staff, who take the greatest care to provide exemplary service. All of our locations provide comfortable guest bedrooms for those looking to enjoy a slice of Norfolk countryside, whether it be for business or pleasure. We are a dog-friendly group and invite guests to bring along their beloved four-legged friends for both meals out and overnight stays.

Property info

The restaurant and guest rooms occupy a 19th Century Vicarage set in 7 acres of Norfolk countryside. Essentially a busy Restaurant and Bar with welcoming Rooms. The site was completely refurbished in 2023, both inside and out, including the six guest bedrooms which are both comfortable and stylish. In addition to cosy beds and boutique furniture, the rooms also provide wall-mounted 43 inch smart televisions, complimentary toiletries and hot beverages. We offer both inside and outside dining, in our spacious dining restaurant and garden terrace area. The lounge bar offers refreshments throughout the day, alongside the separate restaurant which serves a varied menu of seasonal and local produce. Situated in the heart of the Norfolk broads, Salhouse is a quaint countryside village surrounded by picturesque waterways and landscapes. The Salhouse broad is popular throughout the year and is in walkable distance of the Lodge. There are many local walks for cyclists, dog-walkers and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy. The neighbouring village of Wroxham has been a favourite amongst holidaymakers for many years. This bustling Broadland village offers a wide selection of local shops, amenities and boat hire. The many boat hire companies offer day trips and guided tours, the perfect way to appreciate the beauty of the broads. Family attractions such as Bewilderwood, Wroxham Barns and the Bure Valley Railway make for fun-filled family days out.
